There's no mystery. Most fall into one of 3 categories: 1. They want to see the best fighter 2. They are his fan 3. They want to see him lose #1 probably constitutes 30% of his sales, most fighters who make it to the very top (not just champion but also p4p and in mainstream awareness) end up becoming rich. #3 probably constitutes over 60% of his sales. The 0 is his greatest asset and he flaunts (markets) it and banks on it, while risking it all at the same time. So while his fighting style may be considered low-risk, his income generating strategy is actually quite risky.
Hit and dont get hit, but staying in the pocket to counter or get off first. Use your legs to pivot/parry punches, but not to run around and play "your it". Break your opponent down, physically and mentally. If the knockout comes, it comes, if not it's ok because the beauty of the sweet science is performed. Sweet Science in the dictionary should have a picture of Sweet Pea Whitaker. IMO, no one did it like him.
It's pretty sad all flo mos do is make threads promoting Floyd and validating his legacy with even more stupid threads like this.
Seems like a personal issue, I think you're still angry over 118-110. It's okay. Time heals all wounds. Even Klit****s are starting to accept TKO6. Let's hope this doesn't take another 10 years but you'll get through it. I believe.
Hit and not get hit is the whole idea behind boxing. The main thing is though to have a bunch of different top class fighters who all have different styles, the best fighters looking at this generation are more defensive, exception of course is Pacquiao, but Ward, Rigo and Floyd are hit and not get hit and they are the 3 best in their divisions. In boxing though you look to make as much money possible in your career, Floyd has done that superbly but with hit and not get hit styles it is generally more difficult as your entertainment levels are less so you need to balance it out more in order to be a fan favourite yet be able to be consistent in your performances.
There's many different styles there's the runner type, Void is an expert at this. Then there's the reckless slugger, Pacquiao. There are many styles of course and each one has a following. But from an entertainment point of view. Hugging and running for 12 rounds will not gain any appraisal from the public. A slugger that doesn't get a TKO or KO is kinda boring as well. At the end of the day, it's hit and not get hit. Not run, hug, run, hug, hit, run, hug,pot shot, run and run and run and hit then hug etc 118-108. etc
For me it's a bit warped to pay 70-100 bucks because I want to watch someone lose. I buy and/or watch fights for two reasons. One is I like watching a particular fighter, and the second reason is I think that regardless of who wins, it will be a good fight. So in the case of say Hagler - Hearns, while I'm happy Hagler won, (I started watching boxing mostly because of him) I really won't have cared who won, but in terms of the entertainment value I received, I won.
I see people hinting about Mayweather here, but let me tell you, if Mayweather had good power he'd be one of the most exciting fighters. Dodging punches, landing counters that can drop guys. That punch he landed on Hatton was so good to watch, despite me rooting for Hatton to win - just a shame Hatton's chin didn't stand up to the challenge.
Hit and don't get hit. I didn't train boxing so I could trade punches with people, I learned the science to prevail without taking any damage.
Amateur boxing recently got rid of touch and run away style of boxing because it was damaging there brand .
