is david lemiuex a white nigel benn?

I know where you're coming from, both hard punching no nonsense type of fighters.
I think Benn was the better than Lemiuex will ever be and Benn's resume speaks for itself but it isn't a way out there comparison.

Has Lemiuex got a performance in him like Benn's Vs McClellan?

I personally don't think so but he has the chance to prove he has against GGG.

Funnily enough McClellan was called "The G-Man" and Lemiuex is fighting triple G. Both underdogs against against very highly rated, very dangerous fighters, the similarities are growing

 

GGG would flatten Nigel Benn just like he's going to do with Lemieux

so they're similar in that too

One thing with Nigel, he was never more dangerous than when than when badly hurt, David probably has yet to prove he can similarly come back from the Brink... which is not so say he would not go down fighting... but in a filmic sense they are not too removed as Negatives of each other.

 

Completely different animals. Lemieux would be cannon fodder for Benn, and would have been schooled by Michael Watson

 

You forgot to add that Benn wouldn't make the halfway point of the first round against GGG.

Benn was heavy handed, and in all honesty thats about the sum total of his boxing skills.

Every time Benn was hit clean he'd go to pieces and start swinging blindly, and please don't tell us how he got off the floor to beat Gman. TV crew lifted him back into the ring, and he managed to stay upright until Gman completely gassed.

Michael Watson knocked him out with a jab.

He was beat senseless in the first Eubank fight, and s****ed a draw in the 2nd ( who had Eubank ever beaten ? )

And the man who proclaimed he liked a "tear up" cried off twice against Collins.

Some people have a very rose tinted memory with regard to Benn.

 

Benn was heavy handed in both hands, from a variety of different punches. Lemieux only has a wild left hook in his ****nal.

 

Benn was very special! Lemiuex isn't anything great. Leagues apart.

Benn was heavy handed but had no technical skills? He had a lovely left jab, very fast feet, accurate body shots, and was very evasive with his bob-and-weave defense, and timed that quick sneak counter right to perfection.

 

Eubank beat a prime Benn and prime Watson, as well as an unbeaten Rocchigiani (who was then robbed vs Maske/Michalczewski) and Malinga, Thornton (was beating Toney after six), Giminez (very nearly beat Duran in first round) and Holmes (beat the **** out of a non-weight-starved F.Tate) in a 12-month period (with slippery Jarvis and slippery Essett thrown in too!). Chris proved himself!

 

Eubank never beat anybody.

Benn never beat anybody.

Please stop talking out of your rear, and give your mouth/typing finger a chance.

 

I suppose Iran Barkley and Gerald McClellan - knocking out Tommy Hearns, Michael Olajide, John Mugabi and Julian Jackson in next to no time and arguably beating Roberto Duran (all-time lb4lb #1) and Michael Nunn (then-lb4lb #1) and Hearns on points, or blowing out Gilbert Baptist who gave Bernard Hopkins hell for 12 rounds, or beating Roy Jones on points in '88 Golden Gloves etc - were nobodies.

Doug DeWitt today would be 50/50 with Golovkin - at the very least, less power but granite chin, and better boxing ability.

 

DeWitt made every round with a peak Tommy Hearns very close. And as Manny Steward said in 2002: "The Nigel Benn who beat Doug DeWitt would've beaten any middleweight in the world. And I mean any middleweight, then, now or any time."

 

That's one thing I think Benn never gets any credit for, his boxing ability.

As an amateur Benn won an ABA title when they actually meant something and it is all very well being heavy handed but you have to hunt down and get in a position to deliver those punches and that itself is a lot harder than you think.

Stalking an opponent and cutting the ring off requires good footwork, technique and ring IQ.

 

And Benn won that ABA title more on boxing ability than punching. He outboxed Mark Edwards in the London final with a nice jab and in-and-out movements. He actually outboxed Rod Douglas in their first fight in '85 at 156lbs, but Douglas overpowered him believe it or not, and won a close decision on aggression. (Douglas was an international amateur, who looked to have beaten Shawn O'Sullian in the Olympics when O'Sullivan was ranked #1 in the world.)

 

I believe that Mr Benn had a better chin. Yes, they both have one punch ko power, but so did Julian Jackson and please don't compare Lemieux to JJ.
