Ouma gave the style to beat Golovkin but got punished as a result. You cut the distance, fight on the inside, take away his leverage and stop him getting his weight behind shots...unfortunaely you need to not only be good enough to excute the strategy but also good enough to beat Golovkin at it AND tough enough to take his shots to get in and on the inside, and have the engine to do it for 12 if necessary...

Agreed, Ouma got lit up. I don't think anybody says it will be EASY beating GGG on the inside, only that it seems the most viable strategy to date. I can't see a coward or a runner beating Golovkin, not unless they have crazy footwork and defensive skills. He's only really looked ordinary when getting pushed back and pressured on the inside. Whether a fighter can do that for 12 rounds is another matter.

He knows deep down inside that he would not be able to beat Golovkin by fighting this way and this is why he wants none of him. Golovkin wants to come down at 154 and floyd answer is: I cannot come at 160...atsch

 

I don't think a "runner" can score enough to win on points against GGG, and the odds of that style of fighter hitting hard enough to stop him are miniscule- that's just not a combination of skills that really comes along.

I think not allowing GGG to dictate distance is crucial...whoever tries to smother him on the inside will need to be physically strong, in great condition, and willing and able to absorb punishment to pull off the win.

Nobody is unbeatable, but the blend of attributes and skills it's going to take to beat Golovkin isn't common at all. By far, the worst stylistic matchup for him in the last 25 years at the weight was Hopkins.

 

I'd have Toney as more of a difficult matchup if infighting is genuinly the key.

 

I maintain the position that Canelo beats GGG. Alvarez is a competent boxer puncher with great speed for his division. Is very good at slipping shots on the inside and countering in combinations. GGG doesn't have the speed necessary to consistently catch Alvarez but does have the power to have success in spots.

Bringing up Mayweather at 154 I'd bet on him aswell people say all Floyd fights are slow flat footed sluggers, well that fits GGG to a tee who would likely get out boxed.

 

I think a Hatton in the MW division will give GGG most trouble. Remembering the Hatton/Tsyu match. But Hopkins, Toney and Ward also.

 

youre thinking of the wrong hatton fight, try the pac fight for how a hatton type would do against a ggg.

 

I mean the way Hatton faught Tsyu. How do you think the Hatton/Pac fight would turn out if Hatton used the same tactic he did against Tsyu?

 

He cuts the ring down too well to box him, you have to take it to him in my opinion.

 

same outcome, hatton gets planked. hatton was just never on pacs level.
