Hello Iv not been here in a while I was sparring today body session today. I tensed up and forgot to breathe and was just flat finished no energy etc. I shaddowbox and when I do Im relaxed but when I get in the ring I freeze with fear lol
You'll get over it the more sparring you do. I used to be scared to fight and now it's not a big deal. It prepared me for if I want to go to a gym to spar. Just try not to forget to breath and do work on what you are trying to work on.
Actually I find that you punish yourself a lot. Dont do that, dont work on punishing yourself for your mistakes, work on fixing them. Way more productive :good
Thank you I feel as if I need to in order to improve myself. I apologised to my trainer and told him I will do better I was really upset with my performance but I guess I will get better.
I never realised I was not breathing it was only when he stopped punching I realised wait was I not breathing lol
It happens to everyone, why do you think Mayweather doesn't like his sparring to be taped? He has his days when he doesn't perform as well, and so does everyone. Don't feel bad about it, it doesn't mean you are not good enough or anything like that. Failure is part of life, we fail, and we learn from it, there is no such thing as a person who has not failed. The experience only makes you better, besides, you are probably making it worse in your head than it actually was. It takes courage to box, even if it just sparring, so you are already a badass for that in my book. Keep training, and you will improve whether you like it or not hehehe. Remember, sparring is to learn, it is not an actual fight, so work in whatever you want to improve in sparring. If you want to improve counters, work on that, if you want to improve defense, work on that. Don't "score" your sparring sessions, just focus on working on what you want to improve, like in the bag, shadowboxing, etc.
Tell your partner to take it easy so that you don't need to fear getting knocked out if you make a mistake so you can get comfortable and try new things, then just spar more untill you get over it.
The best way to get novices/inexperienced boxers to develop their sparring is for them to work light with a partner with a lot of experience. Light sparring means the experienced boxer is working with you instead of against you for a few weeks/months or however long it takes for you to iron out ya wrinkles. I remember my first few spars i'd get in with a pro boxer who'd just play defense the entire time while I worked. Guy had a radar for whatever came at his head but I could get at his body pretty well a lot of times. He would simply just 'pop' me if I left any glaring openings. I got comfortable in sparring after about a month and was ready for heavy spars with any of the other amateurs.
Sparring isn't a performance. Focus on the process, not the outcome. It's training, work on some aspect of your game and focus on that.
