I think Scottish boxing is away to boom. These 2 lads no doubt will be British Champions. I think Ronnie Clark will show in his fight v Cacacae that he deserves a shot at the British title.. With Brophy and Traynor looking like they are almost ready for shots at the title as well could be very interesting year.

 

It is about time the East coast of Scotland had a world class boxer been 40 years since they had one. It has been the West coast holding the fort in that department for Scotland since Ken B

Couldn't agree more, we're about to enter a golden era for Scottish boxing. A few really promising amateurs coming through as well as MGM Scotland putting on shows across the country giving a bit more exposure/activity to those fighters who haven't been having much luck over the past couple of years.

Exciting times indeed.

 

Just seen Taylor is fighting Adam Mate (17-5) in only his second fight. Glad they aren't messing about with him. Fighters with talent should be fighting decent opponents from the outset.

josh has the talent to go all the way imo,

stephen tiffany may well struggle at the top level but it wouldnt surprise me if he got a british or commonwealth title. would like to see him vs joe ham from glasgow, stephen has been very unlucky with the scoring of their amateur bouts!

tommy philbin is another that could suit the pro game better but he really needs to up his workrate if he plans to make waves

lewis paulin is another decent kid and like stephen tiffany against joe ham he was given a raw deal when he dropped charlie flynn heavy and they rang the bell with over a minute to go and gave charlie a massive help. disgraceful imo

jason easton kind of went off the boil in the last couple of years but i worry about his chin tbh, he was chinned against a lad from lochend elias gear and was also kod when on scotland duty. he is a decent boxer, good skills and can punch a bit too but we will find out when he gets hit properly if those 2 incidents were just flukes.

 

Stranger things have happened in boxing than Ronnie winning and getting a shot at the British title!! Like Ricky Burns beating El Hamidi then getting a shot at the world title!!

I also disagree that if Ronnie were to lose he would need to pack it in, in boxing terms he is still fresh and learning all the time. You know Ronnie and he wants to fight the best at his weight and doesn't want gimmes so I don't see the need to make rash decisions off the back of him fighting a top class prospect who is highly rated by most.

On the other boxers mentioned,

Josh Taylor really is a top prospect and I see him having a better career than Alex Arthur if he keeps his head in the game and training with Shane McGuigan will help him even though I rate his amateur coach Terry McCormack highly and would have reached the top if he had stayed with him.

Stephen Tiffany really should have turned over a couple of years ago imo great little fighter that has been boxing like a pro for the past few years and I think he will make a great addition to the Scottish scene.

Billy is managing Jason Easton and imo he could be a very good pro, he has all the attributes and could have made the transition over when he knew that he wouldn't get to the Commonwealth games.

Lewis Paulin has been mentioned also, he is another underrated boxer and has all the tools to carve out a good career, I am really looking forward to a potential bout with Charlie Flynn in the future because I was that fight where Lewis dropped Charlie and imo Lewis should have got the nod!!

Lewis Benson is one that I didn't think would turn over just yet but if he sits down on his punches a bit more could develop into a good pro similar to John Thain, he is tall for the weight, has long arms and is gritty. Could be a surprise package!

Another Lochend fighter mentioned is Tommy Philbin, Tommy is another lad that I thought should have turned over a couple of years ago but I think work and family commitments didn't make that possible until now and at 24/25 he is still young enough to make head ways at light heavyweight.

Good times for Edinburgh with these boys coming through and maybe if there is more regular shows then more of their top amateurs will turn over in the future!

 

What's the thoughts on Joe Ham, I've seen him a few times & every time he's made it look effortless... Steps up to 6 rounds next time out, he sits at 5-0 (3) and as I say has rarely struggled or even gone through the gears tbh...

He digs to the body like a seasoned pro too, that is defo something too look out for down the line.
