:rofl Not a chance. Who was the best guy Peter KO'ed, maybe Maskaev who was KO'ed in everyone of his losses. Tyson was the only guy to ever KO Holmes and Holmes would go onto have 3 more losses when way, way past his best. Holmes had a great chin even Shavers couldn't keep him down.
Well perhaps, did anyone face Tyson also face Peter? That would be the only way to know, ha. Tyson was obviously superior because he had power in both hands and he was fast as hell, that I'd take any day over slower one punch power as a weapon. This brings me to perhaps a better question, why don't the smaller bulkier heavyweights learn to fight more like Tyson? I was re-watching the Stiverne vs Wilder fight the other day thinking this exact thing. Stiverne looked like he would move his head a little bit like Tyson but if he learned to do the peekaboo style, moving his head more he would of been really difficult for Wilder to pop him with so many jabs. Just make me wonder why more fighters don't copy that style to try and compete with the bigger heavyweights. Peter is another one, you just aren't going to be that successful against these bigger heavyweights until you learn how to slip jabs and nail them with counter punches. I went off topic but I think it's a better question, Peter was not even close to Tyson's overall skill and fighting ability, perhaps he had the same type of power but Tyson was a superior fighter and used it better.
Iron-jawed Marion Wilson thinks highly of Peter's power. ''Samuel Peter was the hardest puncher'' --Marion Wilson Wilson was only stopped once in 57 fights (on a cut), and 25 of his 57 opponents were undefeated. Only fought one opponent who had a losing record (in Wilson's sixth fight) and didn't retire until he was 51 years of age. He didn't even turn pro fight until he was 32. His opponents total records were 1127-146-14, averaging 20-3 and he fought the likes of: Ray Mercer Andrew Golota Hasim Rahman Oliver McCall Shannon Briggs Oleg Maskaev Tony Thompson Ike Ibeabuchi Zeljko Mavrovic Kirk Johnson Larry Donald Ezra Sellers Frans Botha Jeremy Williams Orlin Norris Tyrell Biggs Carl Williams Derrick Jefferson Corey Sanders David Izon Jimmy Thunder Paea Wolfgramm Vaughn Bean Mike Hunter Greg Page Faruq Saleem Terrance Lewis Obed Sullivan Among others http://boxrec.com/boxer/4537
Is this even a serious question? Asides from Maskaev, I cant think of a single world class fighter Peter kod. And even Maskaev was nothing special, Tysons sparring partner kod him in one round. A certain Oliver Mcall.
And that stoppage was because of cuts. I've watched his fights against hard hitters like Briggs, Mercer and Ibeabuchi. What a great chin he has!
Peter was a hard hitter, but compare him to Tyson? Lol. Mike had great handspeed and fantastic punching skills. By the way, any version of Tyson till 2001 KO's any version of Maskaev in 30 seconds.
Tyson was more explosive But you get a big dollop like Sam puting his weight behind his punches then i wouldnt be surprised Same goes for Butterbean
He might hit harder, he might not. We cant really say. But we can look at who each guy knocked out to compare.
I maintain that Sam Peter was freakishly strong. He was let down by poor technique. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if, punching a testing machine, Peter achieved higher psi than Tyson. The real difference is that Tyson not only hit hard, but he had explosive power and good technique and accuracy to back up his power. THAT is the difference between a great and just another brawler.
