The US heavyweight champion the country was waiting for but nobody cares... fighting a nobody again. I'm finding it really odd, why is he constantly fighting nobodys...
As someone from the United States, I'm happy to see this on NBC which will be the first Heavy Championship match since Larry Holmes vs Carl Williams. I think that's good for the sport and the division and perhaps the point was to give him someone he could knock out in spectacular fashion to improve the sports popularity in the states. The Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight I think really damaged the sport at least here in the states, the most watched boxing match for many people in years and it was incredibly boring. Yeah it's lame he hasn't fought anybody besides Stiverne worth noting but perhaps he'll get that fight with Wlad next year.
As of now nobody has picked this up. The first heavyweight fight in 6 years not to be shown in the UK. Hoping Boxnation pick it up late.
Go to give Wilder's people some props for putting this on reg tv. If you want a reason why boxing in the us is not what it was it's national coverage.
Exactly, his last two were on showtime so this was surprising to be on normal TV and non cable here in the states.
Says more about Americans that you'd allow a wife-beating boxer who is like watching paint dry to become your icon within the sport. Did you expect an exciting fight vs Pac Man? Seriously? Wilder is a fraud. He beat Stiverne? So ****ing what. Step up against the best and fight Wlad. At the moment he is a classic example of a paper champ.
A man who has wealthy backers who pays the WBC off for a belt. But looks like Bambi on ice pretending to be a boxer. I have seen Hollywood actors look better in the ring than he does after over 30 fights. I have zero interest in seeing him, until he fights a top 20 HW. So far his two defences have been terrible...not worth watching. This French guy is another borderline top 70 HW who will be taking an early bath.
I don't care where a fighter is from, I actually like AJ more than Wilder when it comes to the newer heavyweights. What's with this allow statement though? Last I checked America didn't vote on which fighters we'd like to do the best, how would we be responsible for what American fighters do? Everyone else that lost to him allowed him to win over and over, not America..hell I'd be willing to bet most Americans probably wanted him to lose those fights. Also I knew Mayweather fought boring fights, I have respect for his fighting skill but I've never cared for the way he fights. I've watched most of his fights but more because I wanted him to lose. Pacquiao fights have always been great to watch so most people probably expected that and a lot of people that aren't generally boxing fans tuned into that fight at a party or whatever and were probably turned off from the sport because of how boring Mayweather fights. Most people I know were more Pacquiao fans than Mayweather anyways here, everyone I watched the fight with wanted him to win. Anyways I was just making a point of how it could be good for the sport here in the states making this HW fight free to watch. This will be the first free Heavyweight champion fight in a long time on a non-cable channel so everyone could watch it as opposed to a PPV fight or showtime. Regardless I agree I want Wilder to fight Wlad and hopefully it happens soon.
