There was a thread on this, deleted now, why's that? :huh There was a bit of banter carrying on between Nelson & his adversaries, sure, but there was also some informative stuff in there as well. Nothing to my eyes that warranted a closure or deletion outright. Anyway, some of the posts are recoverable (or viewable, at least) on Google Cache.
Just got done watching Iain Butcher labor through a 6-rounder with Brett Fidoe, picking up a ref's decision scored 59-56. (meaning one round lost and one level) He seems to have a loyal following, but not all that special, is he?
There was a thread that had everything including banter, charity fights and even some gay guy cracking a one liner which had a few doubled up with laughter. A classic thread
as far as Scottish boxing goes this the bleakest I've seen it since Ive been watching boxing.. though they do have some good amateurs. when I first started following boxing scott Harrison was world champ.. then it was Alex Arthur .. then Ricky Burns.. so they always had a top class world champion until lately. Josh Taylor - the future of Scottish boxing, has improved loads in the last year. Will turn pro after Rio.. and I think he could become world champion.. very talented well schooled all rounder. Charlie Flynn - good enough to become European champ maybe more if he improves. Aston Brown is the worst boxer in the GB set up.. I can't understand how he is still in GB when all he does is lose! Whereas the little flyweight McFadden beat Andrew Selby and Charlie Edwards and got robbed against the aussie in the commonwealths and still didn't get into GB! McFadden is top talent. Was very surprised Stephen Simmons lost to ****inson
Don't recall exactly who it was. They kept saying that Scottish boxers "couldn't knock the skin off a pudding", though.
Agree with all of that, although have heard Flynn might be packing china in his mandible. The talent pool for the current crop of amateurs is deep, and the transition to the pro's is only going to get easier for these lads with the creation of MGM Scotland.
Jon Slowey just failed a bid for the vacant Euro featherweight title, edged by Carmine Tommasone in the Italian's backyard. Gave it a fair go but was just outclassed. Its unbelievable how Reece Mcfadden never got called into the GB squad after beating all the GB boxers.. Selby, Edwards, Bateson. Clear bias towards english boxers Mcfadden should defo be in the squad, there is no possible reason they could give as to why he isn't.. bias/corruption for sure.
