Agree. Any way you slice it, Wilder's best option is to fight Wlad next. Assuming Wlad beats both him and Fury, a lucrative fight against Fury is waiting in the wings as a rebound fight for Wilder.

I think the WBC might strip him if he doesn't fight Povetkin. Apparently for the fight last Saturday, the combined purses were $1.54 million. WBA and WBO charge 3% of fight purses for sanctioning, so assuming WBC is similar that would mean the WBC made $46,200 on Wilder's most recent fight.

If the purse bids for the Povetkin fight were even $10 million, that would mean a massive increase in the sanctioning fee for the WBC.

Money talks and the oligarchs will give the WBC a massive sanctioning fee no matter who Povetkin fought for the title. Currently it seems the WBC aren't earning that much with Wilder.

Wilder should set a Jan. 16 date for Povetkin. That's within one year of him winning the WBC title and one year is the span for a mandatory.

If Sasha cannot fight in November and do a turnaround to fight the mandatory in January, he should vacate the No. 1 position or pull out of the Wach fight.

The champion should not have to wait for the mandatory challenger. If Povetkin cannot fight in mid-January, Wilder should be allowed a voluntary defense on that date if he chooses.

 

They scheduled on Nov 4th because it's a Federal holiday in Russia, I would have preferred the card to be sooner myself but oh well.

Sasha, who according to this thread is only allowed to fight on Russian federal holidays, is the one who scheduled so far out to fight in November.

He fought less than one round in May. If he needed a tuneup, he could have scheduled it a lot earlier than November.

Wilder plans to fight in mid-January, it's up to Povetkin to be able to meet that deadline. Sasha should either cancel the tuneup or agree to fight the mandatory in mid-January when it's due ... it's his team that's allegedly eager to make the fight ASAP. Him fighting in November has moved back the purse bids.
