Really Butte? are we talking Butte here, FFS wasn't he exposed. There is a level that is beyond Butte and no amount of fights under that same level, belt or no belt are going to change that.
It about levels, he did what he did against lower level, than top 3 in his division Ward, Kessler, Froch, there isnt sigle opponent that would even remotely suggest he can beat any of top 3 dogs in his time!
It was tournament containing 6 fighters and 3 were clearlz the bst in the division, BUte was maybe 4th, in best case so zes he stazed in Canada while best got in the tournament, meaning 3 best Ward Froch Kessler.
All right, but all three were reluctant to fight Bute after the tournament, Froch accepting to fight Bute only with all his conditions.Froch declared he won`t go in Canada.Ward didn`t accept a fight even in his hometown.
If you refer to a comparison term: Magee had been KO-ed by Froch in 8th or 9th round and by Bute in 10th round Johnnson was anihilated by Bute while a few months earlier Froch had a much heavier fight.THAT WAS THE REAL REASON OF HIS AND OTHER TWO ATTITUDE.
Were they even negotiating at any point? At what time should Kessler have fought him? After the S6 he was recovering from an injury, and then building up for a rematch with Froch before retiring. With Ward it's hard to see either of them wanting to leave their hometown for a fight..
I believe Haymon is using Hearn and his stable of "Champions" as he sees them as the easiest way to secure "titles" for his own stable of fighters.Eddie reaps the rewards by retaining UK rights and takes a portion of his fighters fees for management/promoters fees. Nice work Eddie.
I think neither of us know the terms they were negotiating, if they were. I bet Bute didn't want to leave Canada and i doubt Kessler - being the a-side felt like going to Canada. We also don't know anything about the economic terms. I'm pretty sure though that a 2. Froch fight made much bigger money than a Bute fight would. But you're right it could possibly have been a lucrative fight for Kessler, and then he would've been the one to expose Bute instead. I'm sure the Kessler camp like a few others watched Froch - Bute with regret thinking that they could've been the ones to expose Bute.
I was most upset when the Pavlik fight never happened. HBO was doing a great job putting the doubleheader Bute vs Miranda / Pavlik vs Martinez. Pavlik back then was the king at 160 and Bute was rated #1 at SMW by the ring. So HBO was planning to do a what was considered the best 160 fighter against the best 168 fighter, probably at SMW or at a catch weight of 166. I remember Bute and his trainer Larouche at the press conference of the Miranda fight keep asking and being surprised about the live Pavlik-Martinez fight. HBO was tring to do this fight to rival with Sowtime Supersix who aslo claimed they had the best SMW, with of course the exception of Bute. I think if Bute took on Pavlik back then and he would have probably beat him. Lots of folks would not have seen Bute as such protected fighter. Then again after this I was so disappointed that Ward wanted non of Bute, even if the Romanian-Canadian has stated the he will go and fight in Andres backyard, and prove it later that he was serious by doing it with Froch. It was the best SMW's fighting each-other, and would have made a lot of sense. Ward might of thought that he deserves a vacation after the super six or just wanted to hype the best fighting the best fight more , to make it bigger and it backfired. Who knows. Anyway I thin Bute's career really derailed because of this to fights not happening. First made Bute have a line of so-so opponents and no1 that was a really great win, and the second made his confidence crumble and his worth put up for questioning. Even if Bute was about to lose to Ward I think it would have been a closer fight, and would have been left with his confidence intact, unlike what happened with Froch.
Ok but for what reason Bute would not be a decent contendent? I mean, champions don't fight a top 3 every time, do they?
