You should have made this a public poll.

No. Lucas punked out because he didn't want to take an asswhooping, there is nothing wrong with his eye.

I think his nose got broken. Did you see all the blood coming out of it right after the punch landed? He may have never had his nose broken before. A dude broke my nose once with a cheap shot and I couldnt see well for a minute. Everything went blurry on me.

Agreed. McClellan was the first thing I thought of after the fight. Not only because of the way he was rubbing his eye when down but also the head clashes in the Benn McClellan fight played a large part. Matthysse was visibly affected after the head clash in the 7th - he may have suffered some damage then and continued to fight for several rounds before the punch finished it.

As much as we like to believe our favourite fighters wouldn't quit and would fight on regardless of their injury it's worth stating that no world title or upcoming pay day is worth risking serious injury or even death. Lucas clearly felt he was in distress and made the call.....the right one for me.

What good is the money or the glory if you cant see, or are brain damaged or disabled through injury?

    Taking punishment is not cool.

I've seen Lucas take quite a few shots that were harder than that and press the action. I'm inclined to believe him when he says he quite because of eye damage.

Duh, he was winning those fights or had a very good chance of winning still, unlike the Postol fight. The Machine only cares about his health when he is getting schooled.

Of course he did. He knew when he had enough. It's not for anyone else to say he should have kept on fighting.

no he didn't do the right thing - he should have continued fighting and let his retina detach and go blind.

It wasn't even partially detached to begin with, so you're saying a couple of more shots to the chin would have detached his retina? Deluded fool.

No. As a blood and guts fan, I demand that fighters suffer for my entertainment :D

I am going with Yes. Although I was severely disappointed in the fight, I am not in his shoes and I am in no position to call him a quitter. If he felt he could not continue or see, then he needs to do what's important to his health.

And that's plain wrong because he should have let himself been beaten to a pulp to entertain keyboard warriors like yourself.
