Just watched Kugan's latest iFL interview with FW which was quite a good watch. Was obvious that FW had been given the questions before hand and had time to prepare an answer but there were still some interesting points, but the one which jumped out the most was that FW suggesting that the Sky/Matchroom relationship is as follows: Matchroom have an exclusive deal with Sky, whereby any show they put on can only be broadcast on Sky and with no other channel. However, Sky do not have the same agreement with Matchroom, and that they can in fact showcase another promotional companies as they see fit, with the example he used Klit v Fury. This took me by surprise as I thought up until now it had been well documented that it was a two way, exclusive agreement. Furthermore, wasn't sure if Matchroom had a hand in promoting Klit v Fury in partnership with K2. Can anyone shed any light on this?
Matchroom are tiny compared to Sky. Why would you possibly think it is a two-way agreement? Sky dominate and decide every step that is taken. As is to be expected.
I seem to remember around 6 months ago Adam Smith tweeting about the agreement being renewed between the two parties and I, and I wouldn't have thought I'm the only one, was under the impression that it was a mutually exclusive agreement. Not saying that Sky will deal with any other promotional outfit anytime soon, but it certainly would be interesting if the right fight/fighter came along before getting snatched up by Matchroom/FW and left the door open.
In Kugans latest interview with Eddie, skip to the 11:05 mark. K2 had to deal with Matchroom to get Fury/Klitschko on Sky. I guess this means Sky can only exclusively deal with Matchroom for their boxing.
Yep, Hearn "owns" the Sky Dates. Anyone that wants to then get on has to go through Hearn. As Kalle did for the Grove Rebrasse fight. I don't mind FW but he does chat some nonsense in his IFL Interviews.
There's huge downwards pressure from Sky for those sorts of fights to be shown, as there was in the aftermath of Groves' career post-Froch II. Eddie can pretend they hold all the aces, they don't.
"Downward pressure from the sky eh?" ...no kidding Einstein atsch Only you could come up with that stupid an ****ogy!
In what way is that an ****ogy? It's a description of how pressure will come from the top, i.e. that whilst Matchroom might have the dates, Sky will pressurise them to make the fights they want. Christ, you cannot be this stupid? Didn't your IRA buddies let you go to school?
Its amazing how some people think that FW is talking rubbish when he comes out with these details- are people that naive to think he doesn't know what's going on?? He might not have the no 1 stable anymore but he is still a very powerful man in boxing and he will have plenty of people inside and outside of matchrooms circle who are happy to feed him info. From fighters to business men involved in the sport. For example he told us months ago what sky where planning with all these PPVs and he was/is right
matchroom will keep the dates so long as they allow interesting fights involving Brits to be broadcast on Sky. only challenge to this would be if ****** dropped boxnation and offered cards to sky.
