Folks are always saying how American fighters aren't coming through anymore and such like. How wrong can you get! Look at fellers like Dawson, Dirrell, Ward, Pavlik, Berto, Bradley, Diaz...all between 24 and 26 and making waves in their divisions! Things sure aren't that bad from this side of the fence!
Well, those are all guys who are pros, too. We have a very good amateur crop right now that could produce some pretty high level fighters if they turn pro in a few years time.
Ward and berto are no joke. They will be big names one day. I havent seen enough of dirrell but berto and Ward are far from hype. Only time will tell for sure
Berto might go places but Ward never will. Dirrell is the best American prospect that isn't already wearing a title strap in my view. Meanwhile, Cuba, the Soviet States and the rest of Europe are still producing the best crop of talent these days.
I disagree, Andre Ward is a very good fighter. Dirrell has good potential, he just needs better handling. Berto is another good fighter as well. I wouldn't pick him over the elite, but i have no doubt he will be a title holder one day at least.
Andre Ward is a very well schooled fighter, who has been very impressive in his past few performances. I would love to hear for those that don't rate him, why so, especially what they didn't like or flaws they saw in recent outings:think
Berto's hypetrain is going to be derailed very shortly, there are too many obvious flaws there. Diaz was a bit overrated and one dimensional, but decent. Dirrell was impressive last time out, but blows hot and cold. Need to see some consistency from him. Ward doesn't impress me greatly, and he's in one of the toughest divisions right now. Bradley looks a solid guy, better than I anticipated, but not exceptional I feel Dawson is the best of the bunch by a good margin, and its only his chin that stands between him and greatness I reckon
Disagree on all counts. Dirrell is chinny, a decent SMW would expose that instantly and take him out, this doesn't include C level Anthony Hanshaw, I'm thinking more along the lines of Tsypko. Andrade would really crush him. Ward, same. Ward also likely has mentality issue's at the top level, doesn't look like a consistent guy. Berto has proven chin issue's and is way too predictable. He has even less potential than the two above IMO.
Dirrell was impressive after round 2, but that doesn't erase the first 2 rounds that Hanshaw had some minor success in. Imagine if Hanshaw was a top 10 level fighter, it's safe to say Dirrell would have been taken out. Bradley just beat a WC opponent, so I can't put him in the same lot as these guys, but do need to see more.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure he got stunned in either the first or second which doesn't bode too well... Looks great in flashes though
ward has mentality issues at the top level? what are you talking about he hasnt fought anyone at the top and he hasnt lost either. Not even close to losing so why do you say that? Berto does not have chin issues he got knocked down once. He got up and finished the job. I am not worried about his chin as much as his defence.
peter quillin is gunna take over the middleweight division one pavlik leaves.. peter quillin is the real deal.. he needs to work on a few things but the talent is there.. dawson will be the future p4p kingpin..
