Which group of heavyweights do you consider the stronger group? Ive used The Ring annual ratings for the years they have been presented. Group A Lennox Lewis 2002 rated #1 Chris Byrd 2000 rated #10 Corrie Sanders 2004 rated #9 Sam Peter 2008 rated #7 Tomasz Adamek 2011 rated #3 Chris Arreola 2009 rated #6 Odlanier Solis 2012 unrated Kirk Johnson 2003 unrated Kevin Johnson 2009 unrated Herbie Hide 1999 unrated Derek Chisora 2012 unrated Larry Donald 2002 unrated Group B Evander Holyfield 2000 rated #4 Evander Holyfield 2001 rated #6 Evander Holyfield 2001 rated #6 James Toney 2005 rated #3 David Tua 1996 rated #8 Ruslan Chageav 2006 rated #9 David Haye 2010 rated #2 Nicolay Valuev 2005 rated #10 Nicolay Valuev 2008 rated #5 Andrew Golota 2004 rated #6 Fres Oquendo 2004 rated #7 Kirk Johnson 2002 rated #8 Before making your choice look into who these fighter fought before and after these dates and what they accomplished. If you go by the numbers only its a landslide win for group B as group A has half it fighters unrated on those dates. Try to be as objective as possible and break down your reasoning.
Well the two best HW belong in group A. But the depth of quality belongs with group B. So as HW it would be better to beat everyone in group B than everyone in group A. However as someone with mixed results like say John Ruiz, that wouldn't be as great as someone who was consistent like say Vitali Klitschko.
You listed some names multiple times. I would say Group A is a little better as it had more punchers and the best two fighters.
Names listed multiple times were because they were fought multiple times. Opinions vary, but I cant see for the life of me how anyone could think group A has more depth and accomplishment before and after those dates than group B.
Mind you, this isnt about wins or losses, but the overall quality of the two groups in a head on comparison.
You are better off listing the fighters where they were rated when they fought Vitali From memory Lennox Lewis 2002 rated #1 Chris Byrd 2000 rated #10 Corrie Sanders 2004 rated #3 Sam Peter 2008 rated #1 Tomasz Adamek 2011 rated #3 Chris Arreola 2009 rated #6 Odlanier Solis 2012 rated #9 Kirk Johnson 2003 unrated, I think Kevin Johnson 2009 rated #10 Herbie Hide 1999 not sure Derek Chisora 2012 Rated #9, I think. Larry Donald 2002 not sure.
Some were ranked when Vitali fought them. I don't think you dispute this fact. Obviously after a loss, they take a slide in the rankings.
Tough pick but you have to guy with 3 slightly old Holyfield's over the likes of Sanders, Peter, Adamek, Arreola, Solis, and others. True, he had lost to Lewis and would go on to lose to Byrd and even Donald but in 2000/2001 he was better than when he fought Byrd and certainly Donald. Some thought he beat Lewis in late 1999, he went 1-1-1 vs. Ruiz (who was a dirty fvcking fighter, '00-'01) but I thought it should have been 2-1 for Holyfield. He looked good v. Rahman in early 2002 and lost to Byrd in late 2002. He gave away the early rounds to Byrd but almost did enough in the second half of the fight to earn a draw (almost, I had it 115-113 for Byrd). Toney was robbed vs. Peter (first fight). Tua went toe to toe with Ibeabuchi and lost a close decision. He dropped decisions to Byrd (kinda close) and Lewis but they couldn't hurt him at all. KTFO of Ruiz, Oquendo, and Moorer among others. Golota should have had wins over Ruiz and Byrd.
This is getting rather boring. We have been over this before. Okay, the following Vitali Klitschko's opponents were Ring Magazine ranking when he fought them Donald - Not sure Chisora Ranked #9 K Johnson Ranked #10 K Johnson - Unranked at the time of the fight, ranked before. Solis Ranked #9
Chisora was not rated he won just one of his last 3 fights, against a journeyman. Show me proof, not your typed BS!
