I dont know who was coaching the N Ireland Commonwealth teams think it was John Conlan but I would expect that coach to have a look in. Or you could well see Pete Taylor or my wildcard would be Zaur Antia to take control of the team but with the IABA you never know what they will do.

Horrible news. Especially just after the World's and with the Olympics around the corner.

Really hope this doesn't leave the HPU in the same state Man Utd was in when Fergie left.

Billy sounded genuinely upset at being more or less bullied by the bean counters and box tickers that ' manage' our amateur game on the radio today. I would like to hear what the other coaches Pter Taylor etc have to say about this fiasco - less than a year before the Olympics too!!

Paddy Barnes the rest of the Belfast lads always speak very highly of John Conlan. wouldn't be a bad choice in my opinion.

After a think its not quite the disaster it could have been,
Take our four shining hopes for olympic gold
Katie Taylor coached by her dad pete (high performance)
Michael Conlon coached by his dad John (high performance)
Joe ward coached by his club coach Eddie bolger (high performance)
Paddy Barnes cant say enough about John Conlon either so all in all not so bad,
Qualify enough male boxers we get three coaches there John,Zuar and Eddie in that order and of course Pete would be the coach of our womans team,

    Morning lads,

Long time luker here in this thread, I spend a lot of time on this site and in particular reading this thread, all you guys are way more knowledgable than about the local scene me and as I dont live in Ireland anymore I can't track the reason why Billy Walsh left his post.

Does anyone know for sure? Or has the specifics been kept behind closed doors?

Any rumours as to what exactly Billy for looking for in the new contract?
From what I gather its was a power struggle as opposed to a Money issue?
    Thanks in advance

The team selection had something to do with it, didn't it?

He wanted to be the man who picked teams to go to different comps and from what I hear the IABA didnt want that.

Also heard that Billy wanted to be more hands on with the boxers but his duties didn't allow for that.
