I'm not buying the p4p #1 title just yet, he is very beatable IMO. First of all he doesn't seem to have much punching power and his defense lacks at times (viloria was nailing him with a left hook all night). He almost had to take a knee in the last round before brian punched himself out. It is clear to me he is a very good fighter but I'm still not sold.
Wlad is P4P Number 1. But the Anti-EE bigots would rather put a puny little midget (who I'm a big fan of) in the top spot than see that happen.
I agree with the Wlad part. Nobody currently on the list is as accomplished as he is and has reigned at the top longer. I totally believe the fact that Wlad is full on Russian that people in the United States are still rubbed wrong by him. The irony between him and GGG is obvious, but Wlad is the true king at HW until King Fury beats the spot from him properly next month.:happy
I have to disagree. Viloria is an extremely durable fighter that had never been stopped before. If you watch other fights of Roman, you will see that this guy packs some real power. Is like judging GGG's power by the Lemieux fight, he didn't look that powerful there, but we all know he punches like a freight train. On Roman's defense, his defense is one of the best I've ever seen on an offensive fighter. His opponents hardly ever land clean on him, he either completely blocks/dodges the punches, or he takes its power away by rolling with them. Not only that, but he is very reactive, and always looking for counter opportunities, which also made Viloria hesitant later in the fight. I don't understand that argument of Roman taking a knee. Yes, he was hurt by the body shot, but he kept his calm, and got himself back together like a pro. Viloria didn't even realized that he had hurt him. Roman has conquered 2 divisions already, he is nearly finished conquering a third one after rematching Estrada. I think he has a really solid argument at being p4p #1, and I thought he looked phenomenal on Saturday.
Strange, for some reason Wlad was never even considered for the spot (by myself included) it's always been either Ward or Chocalitito.
Roman Gonzalez is CERTAINLY P4P no.1. I'm a guy that supports Euro fighters, too. He is an offensive fighter...pay attention to his defence. I think some guys, even the best posters are not immune from the hype. In reality he's a lower tier ATG in terms of H2H ability. He's on his way to having an ATG legacy however. He'll crack the Top 100 the rate things are going.
That bodyshot is being blown out of proportion, at no point Roman was close to going down. He threw a big flurry, was caught by a big body punch, shelled up as Brian went on the offensive and bided his time before going back to work and finishing it. Seriously, if you think that was bad, you'd think he was on the verge of being knocked out atleast 3-4 times against Estrada. Roman is not a big one puncher knockout artist (Brian is arguably a bigger puncher), but he does have power, his high ko rate is more due to him taking his opponents after sustained beatings, by overwhelming them with blistering, accurate, well placed and varied combinations. Also not to mention, Viloria is a tough ******* as he has shown through numerous wars in his career (the TKO loss to Tamara was more due to exhaustion). As for Roman's defence, it is very good given his style. He can block, parry and slip very well and his ability to blend it with his offense is the best in the game right now. His preference for always staying in punching range and throwing at every opportunity he sees will naturally see him get hit but for the most part it's rarely clean.
No it's because Gonzalez is simply way more skilled than Wlad is, which anyone with a pair of eyes, and without a pro-white eastern european bias like you, can clearly see. Idiot.
Did you not see where I said I was a big fan of Gonzalez ....Idiot. And if skill had anything to do with P4P lists it wouldn't look anything like it does today.
Well I am absolutely convinced. He might not have Julian Jackson-esque P4P punching power, or the defence of Willie Pep but he has a great all round game for an offensively minded fighter. Foot-work, balance and punch selection are his best atrributes IMO. Chocolatito P4P No.1 All day baby!
im sold. And Viloria landed his bread and butter hook and he took the shot. He's like Salvador Sanchez. Very accurate.
