And if it's only hardcore fans that boxing should cater too, and put on fights like Erislandy Lara v Austin Trout, nobody watches it so TV companies stop showing it, nobody buys tickets, nobody makes any money, the boxers find another way to earn a living.

    Common sense? Aquire some.

Really, because FNF and TNF were 2 of ESPN's longest running shows. The last 2 PBC events both had higher viewer ratings than the GGG PPV. Boxing is going nowhere. People have being saying boxing is a dead sport since Mike Tyson became no longer relevant, before I'm sure, but I only talk about what I know, yet this year alone we have had the introduction of a new network boxing series. A PPV that did more numbers than any other in history. You all on this boxingforum24 make up a very minute % of boxing opinion. Like I said boxing will be fine however the scenario plays out. Individuals who believe the nonsense the OP tried to spew will stop complaining so much if they learn the sport, learn be versatile. Their will be events for casuals, but events like those are meant to draw you in, hopefully learn to love it like I do. Learn to understand and appreciate different styles. Styles like Mayweather for example are not new. Youtube Willie Pep fought from early 40's til mid 60's. A master of defense and ring generalship. Also one of the greatest LW's of all time.

I agree with most of the stuff but Rigo dismantlement Donaire and busting his eye was fun to watch. Not that I have a problem with Donaire I lost all my v-cash on that fight back in the day. But for a glass jawed fighter to dominate a power puncher like that is required a special poise and skill. It's not completely Rigo fault that his career is going nowhere unlike Ward who is largely to blame especially at the moment.

It's stupid that you speak for "Ward fanboys" and what you said nobody every said.. Not only that, you went to the extreme with it as well.. No one cares where the fight is, who the ref is, no one wants no drug testing, no one cares about Floyd fighting again but the guys who hate him..ect You also say they want GGG to fail, but wishful thinking won't make that happen.. This is the real world...

It also seems like you don't want the "best to fight the best" just incase the more exciting fighter, GGG, losses to the boring fighter, Ward.. You also seem to see clearly into the future, but can't see that Ward is not going to sit at 168 waiting to be the "B side" against GGG.. If they do fight and Ward wins, who's fault is it that GGG won't be popular or as popular? Not the "fanboys".. You are putting more value on the 0 than Floyd...

I agree with this post. What I dont agree with is that you fail to see that Rigondeaux and Donaire were on the same weightclass and both were champions. Real boxing fans want to see the best fight the best regardless of who we want to see win because its good for boxing. So the excuse that it would have been better for Nonito to win goes out the window. The best man won plain and simple.

I couldn't agree more. Most of these casual fans like the thread starter only feel that if you don't KO your opponent and aren't getting hit at will you're boring and not worth anything. They would rather see all technicians banned from the sport and turn boxing into a tough man contest. Guys like the thread started get joy from boxers like Rigo who can't find any real fights or are frozen out, there's something wrong with that mindset. These trolls like the thread starter need to learn how to appreciate all styles or find a new sport to watch because boxing doesn't need fans like them.

Nobody watched GGG either and he's seen as the second coming all action fighter right? His PPV numbers don't back up all that hype.:deal

Well, dang. If this isn't blatant usage of a slippery slope fallacy then I don't know what is.

I do agree thought that people are bringing the sport down rather than up. We should be trying to build Golovkin and Gonzales into the biggest stars possible. They're the type that would be great for drawing casuals back into the sport, and they'd represent it great. There's no better style, no better personality to be the face of boxing.

It's great to have all different styles of boxer, but it's a shame that some fans seem to think that GGG is not a technician compared to the likes of Lara, ward, rigo etc which if you understand boxing is frankly ridiculous

I will always favour 'aggressive' more 'offensive' fighters generally for 2 reasons

    1. It is harder to land a punch than avoid one
    2. If you have 2 defensive 'technicians' you don't have much of a fight, you have 2 guys mainly trying to avoid being hit , some call that ring generalship, I'm not so sure

    3. I prefer someone who is more proactive rather than reactive, a fighter who will impose their style on the other rather than a fighter who relies on reacting to others mistakes , an example of this was the hugely flawed Maidana beating up Broner. A fighter being victorious despite his flaws is a great thing in sport.

If the best 'athletes' with the most fitness and best reflexes always won then sport would be boring

It's about variety but also about guys winning through spirit, mental strength

But this thread is not about boxing really it's another thread about fans obsessing about other fans

Yeah and if every one in boxing is like a Ward- a dull boring fighter with no personality, who fights once every 18 months in front of 4,000 and main dance partners are people who stars are still rising then that is bad for boxing.

People would vote with their remotes and switch boxing off. Adverises and sponser would pull out. The main channels stop showing boxing then. The fighters get paid less. The lack of main stream attention stops capturing peoples imagination and they look to other sports. Gyms close down as fewer people want to become boxers.

What I'm saying is people who are desperate for guys like GGG and Kovalev and Gonalez to fail are only shooting themselves in the foot.

So what's Ward been up to lately? Is he comfortable in retirement? Hope he's not planning yet another comeback! :patsch

Whether you found it fun to watch or not, it wasn't for the casual fans. You're looking at it from a hardcore standpoint. Rigo TV ratings was so abysmal the network didn't want to show him again and Donaire's drawing power took a big hit.
