With only 6 weeks to go.....Campbell will not fight a named opponent. ...This guy is ranked number 1 in Argentina and has a 27-1-2 record. ...against absolute fodder. ....mismatchroom again
what's the rush?? only 12 fights in fought his first proper test against Coyle last time out. Looked decent but thought he could have put his foot on the gas and closed the fight earlier than he did. Needs to improve his jab a bit because Coyle was able to walk him down far to much....but he's got a bit of time yet and hopefully soon we will see him for titles. He' still learning in the pro's another couple of fights and he should start stepping it up. It's similar to AJ build up the fan base build up the hype - get a couple of gimme's (which going purely of boxrec this looks nailed on to be)to earn some ££ and then take calculated risks up the ladder. They aren't going to throw him in with Crolla of Flannagan anytime soon.
i agree with almost all of that, i think they will have a big stadium show in hull next year against ricky burns. i think 2 more fights then that will be eddies plan but he needs ricky to win his next couple to make sure campbell get the recognition for the fight. i disagree about throwing him in with corolla or flanagan and would fancy campbell to beat crolla, terry flanagan would be a tougher fight and one i would avoid for another 18 months.
The rush is he is better, alot better than these guys he is facing (understand the Coyle match). And also isnt he nearly 29??
i think they are moving campbell along nicely. why rush? if he gets sparked early in his career the revenue they can make off him being an olympian aswell will be destroyed. may aswell milk it. The pro game now means at least 15 to 20 fights before taking a proper test. Think about all the training and games people play in other sports before becoming a big star. boxing is no different these days.
It's a shame the British and European (EBU) titles seem to be tied up, otherwise it would be a nice feather in the cap for Campbell, who is no doubt on route for World honours.
Campbell will be the best of the lot in the UK but at 28 they should be moving him a bit quicker plenty of fights for him in the UK Hearn should be making.
Just found out Tony Luis is fighting for the WBC Latino Lightweight Championship on the 4th December in Canada. Eddie Hearn did mention Luis several times as a potential opponent for Luke Campbell but appears they are onto plan B.
