Lennox Lewis vs Alexander Povetkin

Povetkin went 12 rounds with Lurch today; he's not going 12 with Lewis.

I'll go with Lewis. KO, not early, but later on after the Russian was cut up some.

 

Lennox Lewis ducked Vladimir Klitschko and Chris Byrd; Povetkin had the courage to fight both of them.

Lennox never beat a great fighter in his prime. Vitali Klitschko was a B-level fighter and was schooling Lennox until the lucky cut happened.

 

Not a bad fight. Lewis struggled mightily with Mercer who had he been in better condition would of won. Some believe he did. Povetkin is more versatile than Mercer. However Mercer jabbed great that night.
Like to see how Povetkin does against Wilder.

What a load of horse****. What great fighter has Povetkin beaten in his prime? In fact what great fighter has he beaten period? Byrd and Rahman were class B fighters even in their prime, and both were shot when Povetkin beat them.

Povetkin is a top fighter in a weak era, Lennox Lewis was an ATG. Povetkin has beaten some decent weak era fighters, and the only great fighter he fought beat him soundly. The jury is still out on Wilder, Fury and Joshua, but right now the only heavyweight that can be considered even close to great is Wlad, and even that's debatable.

 

Tyson was much more dangerous.


Secondly, you really think Povetkin would last longer than Vitali in a war with Lewis?

 

And how exactly will all of this help when Lewis starts dropping those right hands on Povetkins face?

 

I am a fan he is very good fighter, but he is not on that level...would not beat prime Lennox, Holy, VItali...

 

Exactly. Povetkin is a top fighter in this era, but as of right now, Wladimir Klitschko is the only fighter who can even be considered to be a serious candidate for an ATG.

The jury is still out on Joshua, Fury, and Wilder, they have the potential. Maybe Povetkin too, but he'd have to beat at least one of the new upstarts, then do much better in a rematch with Wlad before even being considered in the same stratosphere as Lennox Lewis.

 

WLad is ATG on longevity alone, Joshua is at start of his career doesnt even deserve talk about ATG future but he is amazing talent.
Wilder and Fury will never be in talk for ATG status because they can not beat Wlad or Povetkin, and by the time JOshua faces them they will either be done or Joshua will stop them...

 

Based on what? Fury or Wilder are not like anything either Povetkin or Wlad have seen in years. In the case of Povetkin maybe not ever.

 

Yup 40+ stitches on VItalis face(no headbutt whole fight) thats luck for sure...

 

Because Povetkin would beat both of them, and will beat them if they do face him, but then again its boxing who knows but i would be shocked if Fury survives 12 rounds vs Wlad.
And by the time Povetkin retires Joshua will be in his prime with enough experience to take over HW division, if Joshua has iron chin there is no doubt he will dominate but it isnt tested for now...
Wilder is decent talent, but if he thinks he can jump around the ring feet in the air vs ATG WLad he is crazy, first hard shot that lands while he is literally in air he is done, its big NO NO half of stuff Wilder does...

 

Lewis never ducked Wladimir, to suggest so is pure lunacy. Wlad was never in a position to fight Lewis. In 2002, if you watch the Mercer fight it's made pretty clear Wlad's promoters didn't think he was ready, Wlad wanted the fight, but his promoters were not confident he was ready yet. So prior to this Lewis would have never been approached to fight Wlad and then in 2003, Sanders was humiliating Wlad, so any idea of him fighting Lewis after that would have been scoffed at.

Wlad's also never beaten a great prime fighter, neither has Tyson, Frazier didn't either, niether did Holmes, in fact it's a rarity that 2 ATG at heavyweight face off in their primes, usually one is past his best like when Frazier beat Ali or Marciano beat Louis.

 

Rly? Povetkin, Haye, Pulev, Chagaev, Byrd, Ibragimov, Peter, Chambers, and few other comes to mind.
Also Lewis simply lose to Mercer, while Klitschko annihilate and stop him.
Lewis won`t stop Povekin.
I dont know if he duck Klitschko, but he did duck Byrd.
