Top 50 maybe he's there or thereabouts, it's debatable. If you regard him as a genuine world title holder which is debatable due to the whole WBA regular title debacle then I guess you could rank him among fighters like Byrd, Moorer, Witherspoon who held titles, were consistently ranked highly during their time but never truly the best, then you could say he's top 50 or close to it. If you see the WBA belt as just the modern day equivalent of the old WBA inter-continental belt then you will probably struggle to rank him top 50. He's more at the level of Tua, Mercer etc, a top fighter that never held a title and probably outside the top 50.
People are doing weird mental gymnastics to downplay Povetkin's stunning cv. Why? We don't know. It is perplexing. Let's look at Povetkin's top 10 wins again. 1. Chris Byrd. The man who beat the same versions of messrs Vitali and Holyfield much easier than Lewis did was battered relentlessly for 11 rounds before being stopped by Povetkin. This was a beat down, a massacre. 2. Marko Huck. Povetkin actually beat this prime ATG in his German backyard after gutting it out in an all out war. One of the greatest HW title fights of all time. 3. Hasim Rahman. The former undisputed and lineal champ Rahman yet again couldn't deal with the russian style. Utterly destroyed within 2 rounds. 4. Chagaev. Tactical masterclass over the man who stopped Valuev breaking Marciano's record. 5. Mike Perez. The man touted to be the man to dominate the sport. Dashed by Povetkin's brutal KO within a round. 6. Larry Donald. Coming into the fight with a streak that included easily beating Holyfield and being robbed by Valuev Mr. Donald was no match for Povetkin as he lost by shutout. 7. Wach. The man of steel, the unbreakable one. They said stopping the man who's chin literally takes up 72% of his face was impossible. They were wrong. 8. Takam. A modern day Tyson. Brutally knocked out by Povetkin. 9. Eddie Chambers. Slick 30-0 Eddie Chambers was no match for Povetkin's workrate. 10. Cedric Boswell. Cedric finally got his shot at the title. brutally Knocked out.
this is because you are a kliturd. observe - . aged 37.there is no need to write more than this. besides calling someone an atg before they finish being highly superfluous, hes nowhere near an atg. Hes done nothing great, even remotely, though if he'd maintained his defences line longer and unified then perhaps yes. Unfortunately he was stuck with a lesser title, in a lesser division. However it is a good win. age 40. jeez. ignoriong the lie about breaking records, chaggy is not good win, probably his best opponent. perez has done nothing.. age near 40?? jeezzzzzz, you know how to pick "povs best wins" lol. has no boxing skills . he is not a boxer. just like tyson, apart from the fact that hes done nothing that tyson ever did. man oh man has done nothing before, nor since. unranked fortysomething.......... who did nothing when prime. basically your post was self destructive. The Manuel Charr win is better than nearly all of these, save Huck and Chaggy. Manuel may have had zero skills except to bullrush his opponent, but at least he was was prime, young enough not to gass out. Now, can you explain why you like to post self destructive posts? I cant get why you enjoy doing it.
Since when is there a confirmed top 10 hw atg list? Boxrec all time doesn't include active fighters, or the wins of retired fighters vs still active fighters.
No basis. He struggled immensely with Byrd regardless of what the hometown scorecards suggest, had a mightily hard time putting away the corpse of Sanders and from that point on his resume is thin air. Had he beat Haye, Rahman or Maskaev, fights that COULD have happened, we'd have something to talk about. But he didn't.
Then please go ahead and try to disprove it. His resume is dog****. History will not look kindly upon it regardless of what you think. In the early 00s he fought Purrity, Donald, Norris and Bean to get in line for a title shot even though you had Tua, Rahman, Toney, Ruiz and an old Holyfield around fighting each other. He fought none of them. He took Byrd into the ring on a weeks notice after the corpse of Razor Ruddock was unable to come to Germany. Byrd, who was viciously KOd by Ibeabuchi was seen as a fringe contender and Vitali quit against him, barely outlanding him 132-124. Fact. He then stated right after the fight he will come in healthy and rematch him. Never did. Byrd himself is on record for saying he tried to get another Vitali fight, but could only get Wlad who is a worse match-up stylistically. He stepped up and fought top contender Kirk Johnson who for some reason came in 20 pounds overweight. Then fought a semi-retired, 40 year old, severely obese Sanders for a title. Fact. He pulled out of a Rahman fight a minimum of 4 times and retired. He was meant to fight Maskaev in his comeback who had KOd him in the amateurs, but he waited for him to fight Peter first and then he came back. More info here: http://www.boxinginsider.com/headlines/open-letter-to-vitali-klitschko-from-oleg-maskaev/ He promised to fight the winner of Haye-Chisora, but fought Charr and then retired. He also retired instead of fighting his mandatory Stiverne.
I think Iggy was better. Very underrated fighter. Haye might have been a bit better as well, though that's just speculation. Neither have a resume half as good as his, so I understand your position. Definitely top 5.
The general thread continues to degenerate. At this point of his career, there is nothing Povetkin could ever do to crack the top 100. He is certainly nowhere near it now.
