Lots of fighters have world class talent, only a few of them have the focus and dedication to convert that into becoming a world class boxer with results. Chad Dawson didn't get world class results or even have world class fights. His career achievements stopped at domestic level.

As said, Dawson was a headcase. There was something lacking. When he didn't have his top shelf stuff, he started losing. All those corner changes, etc. In hindsight, it speaks to .....something lacking.

Old Hopkins, Tarver x2, Adamek. They are world class wins.

If not, then give me some examples of what you consider world class wins.

So Ward gets no credit for beating a guy who wanted to move down to face him and Dawson isn't given any credit for beating Adamek because he was weak making 175. Lol, can't make this up.

    Moreover,
How much credit can you give for a Jean Pascal leftover

One of the best wins in the last 15 years of Boxing. Top 10 for sure, maybe even top 7. Greatness

Not as great as Pascal's victory
He moved up in weight, dared to be great
    And busted Bad Chad's cherry

Ward drained him down and got sloppy seconds
A constellation prize, well short of greatness

I don't doubt he was world class skills wise and for a very brief period of time I can accept that he was a world class performer but if you look at his career overall he was a domestic level fighter. Im not a hater, I thought Chad would do much more than he did in the end, more of a disappointed fan.

He made so many dumb career decisions. Dropping Floyd Sr and than hiring a trainer who was not only completely different but also worse (Eddie Muhammad) hurt him big time. Compare his fights in 2007 and than in 2008, he looked different, he looked worse. Firing Emanuel Steward and hiring John Scully was the end for him. I thought Dawson would have beaten Hopkins more convincingly had he just stuck with Steward.

If he just stayed with Steward he probably would still be the #1 LHW right now. But changing trainers is nothing new for Chad which is a reflection of his poor attitude. He had 8 different trainers and that was okay for him to shuffle trainers in the beginning of his career, but at the world class level you can't do that and still fight at the top of your game. Against world class opponents like Ward and Hopkins, Dawson needed to be at the top of his game and he wasn't. When he was changing corners from Floyd Sr to Scully his skills deteriorated.

Off topic, but the interest in Ward is pretty understandable. He has phenomenal talent and is the only American fighter that can challenge Kovalov,
Stevenson and even guys like Beiterbiev at light heavyweight. I like Ward and his gold medal Olympic credentials. Hope he overcomes his latest injury and gets back to kicking butt. He should be an awesome force at light heavy.

Ward is a dirty grabber (since amateur times) and headbutter.

Dawson did it to himself by agreeing to go down in weight, but that doesn't make Ward's win over him any more meaningful. He was a corpse and the win was pretty worthless.
