JC should be more p4p 9 or 10. hopkins - ancient kessler - jc tied him up manfredo - joke lacey - proven a flop
That list is stupid from my point of view. Joe Calzaghe Pound 4 Pound Best Fighter in the World? No way. He is good but he hasn't done enough to prove himself as the Number One Pounf 4 Pound Fighter in the World. Floyd Mayweather is number one hands down. 6 time world champion in 5 different weight divisions, undefeated in 39 bouts, and 13 of his 14 decisions came by Unanimous Decision. Joe yes is a good fighter and has done some great things but he has stayed in britain for too long where he good have come out and fought the big name fighters back when he was younger. Winky Wright number 8? Are you kidding. Winky is good but he has nobody to fight and hasn't fought since his loss to Bernard Hopkins back in 2007 which was in July. So he shouldn't be in the Top 10. I don't know how they can have Winky and Klitscho in there and not have Miguel Cotto at least at number 10. Cotto yeah fought an unworthy opponent in Alfonso Gomez, but he did beat Judah and Mosley last year and thats worth something.
That sounds good and all but I dont think that is how they do it. At one point some time back they had a section on the site that explained the system. It was as fukked up as the rankings. I will give you an example. Tony Margo is ranked higher then Shane Mosley. Now it the system was one in which they ranked the way that you said it wouldnt be possible for that to be. Shane has beat fighters that were ranked much higher then those that Tony beat. Tony has fought far more bums as you say and they have the same amount of loses (5) with Shane having 8 more wins and 11 more knockouts. No I think that place fighters were ever they want to put them. I was just looking at it and they actaully have Cotto ranked 20th.
Well, as I've said it's far from perfect. But that one I can explain. Mosley has just lost a fight (and points in the process which he 'gave' to Cotto) while Margarito won and won big time. Becuase Cintron wasn't ranked THAT high at the time (not so many points gained), Mosley, even with his recent loss (of points) is only 9 points behind. The Oscar situation shows the problems of the system. Because of the Mayweather SD, he didn't lose points, infact he gained some because of the system rules. So his points are still better than any other LMWs, but that shows how bad is the LMW division as well... you could argue that Oscar is capable of defeat every LMW, but the system is not based on that. Oscar's points are that good because one judge had him winning vs. P4P#1 Mayweather in that division last year, and according to the algorithm, that gives him points. The Forbes win didn't give him many points. Another rule in the algorythm is you fall out of the rankings after 12 months of inactivity, so Winky will fall out in July. Oscar almost fell out, but he fought Forbes just in time (after 363 days ).
very good site, no.1 source of boxing results and fighter records. Very helpful, but ratings are a joke
My top ten P4P list: 1st: PBF 2ndacman 3rd:Cotto 4th: Calzaghe 5th:Vazquez 6th: Pavlik 7th: Hopkins 8th: JMM 9th: Hatton 10th: C. Mijares
Calzaghe ahead of Mayweather, what a load of Bollocks. Mayweatehr just beat a 1op 10 P4P in Hatton and a dangerous Natural Welter in De La Hoya. Joe beats a european fighter Kessler (not even P4P) and beats a 43 yr old HOF barely.
If you read the above explanation you will see that Calzaghe will get more points for that than PBF for either of his 2 wins.
The P4P rankings on BoxRec don't really work that well. They use the same ranking algorithm for everything, and it's hard to come up with a formula that gives good results in all of the different rankings (by weight and in P4P and historical). I think the rankings at each weight class are excellent - people can easily quibble about the top 10, but the ranking system holds together very well as you move down and gives good information about the relative accomplishments of prospects and journeymen. They should probably come up with a different equation for P4P, but then you run the risk of having one fighter ranked below another at their weight, and ahead of him in P4P.
