Well, I'm glad that's over. No more having to listen to how Ronda Rousey is some sort of invincible killing machine that could put king kong in an arm bar.

Actually the upset would have been Rhonda beating Holm. Holm was a world class boxer with way more fight experience than Rhonda. People including Rhonda found out the hard way. Instead of talking about Floyd, she needs to join his gym and learn some stand up basics like, foot work, among other things.

I had a guy a work tell me she'd destroy Froch. Hilarious. Apparently he has no training to prevent being himself being put in her fabled arm bar. He also describes MMA as 'real fighting'.

Just shows you how little the average 'fight fan' knows and how hyped up she was that people thought she could beat a world class male boxer that massively outweighed her.

    Tomorrow will be fun.

Some of you didn't watch the whole fight or understand the evolution of MMA.

These are the main points I took:

    1. Ronda has no head movement. That in itself tells me she has never been in the ring with a decent puncher / boxer.

    2. The fight was won in the first round when Ronda got a hold of Holm a couple of times but couldn't manouver the tap out.

    3. Plus those left hand bombs down the middle had Ronda back pedaling towards the end of round 1.

    4. The KO wasn't about Rousey's chin, which is proven fairly solid after that fight. She took a huge amount of punishment in the first round with those MMA gloves, which allow for a lot more damage than in boxing and at least one very scary elbow to the jaw.

    5. MMA is still a very much evolving sport. The men's game has evolved a lot further than the women's. First there are the strikers, then wrestlers who can box enough to get on the inside for the takedown, then punchers who can avoid the takedown etc. Styles make fights and Ronda just doesn't have the boxing skills to box Holm and Holm has trained to ensure that she isn't an easy takedown target.

This fight wasn't about strategy, it was just that RR had no way of beating HH. The first big left put RR in a place she had never been. RR's only chance against HH is an opening bullrush where she gets to HH without taking a bomb and then systematically wrestles to the tap out. Otherwise there is no point in a rematch.

The women's game will evolve like the men's. Use that fact to your advantage if you're a gambler. HH was 7-1 ffs. HH may eventually lose to a great wrestler with enough boxing to get on the inside.

Agree with most of that, apart from I think Rousey could have made a fight of it by not charging in in straight lines. If she was a little more patient and tried to draw Holm in she may have done better. Looked to me like she wanted to entertain the crowd by being aggressive (or just plain stupid). She should have fought on the back foot and waited for an opening, a bit like Holms did. Problem is, the wouldnt have been a fight and little engagement.

PS to anyone who thinks a woman MMA fighter has a chance against a male boxer at their weight or heavier (possibly any weight) I think this fight is proof that they would get GTFO with one or two punches. This actually applies to a female boxer too.

If Mike Tyson hit any woman in the history of time with his left hook, I am of the belief that, of those that lived, very few of them would get up within a few minutes.

RR is hype. Comparisons with Tyson, GGG, even Nonito Donaire are ludicrous.

Agree. RR in her training needs to focus only on head movement and punch avoidance. The reason she got KOed was she was already on ***** street from the left hands. She stood up and turned around with no idea where HH was. I would have thought she would have rolled or ran before turning.

When you are on the cover of Ring Mag, boxing fans might sort of resent the fact that she's an MMA fighter on the cover of the Bible Of Boxing.

I was dead serious about that petition, guys. The absolute best outcome in all this (I mean, best way to optimize this already great situation and make it even better) would be for Holly to now abandon MMA after having toppled its burgeoning icon, and return to her roots for a big super-fight in boxing with Cecilia Braekhus. :deal

Why has this been allowed on the boxing forum? Theres a MMA section.

My opinion on the fight. She got outclassed by the way better fighter on the night. Ronda was reckless, had a very bad defense and looked very amateurish at times. Next time you speak bad about Floyd, don't get knocked out in your next fight.

Of she has to do the rematch. She will keep it strictly wrestling this time.
