What a dumbass (Cotto)... Why would he pay GGG $1 mil for step aside money so he wouldn't have to face his mandatory to the WBC belt, and then not pay the sanctioning fee to fight and get stripped of that same belt???
Maybe having the belt gave him more leverage in the negotiations for the Alvarez fight. Without the belt, Alvarez maybe could have been considered an equal.
haha i guess yer another one.... 1 mil step aside fee-2-300k hes not paying for the sanctioning fee now think of the money he made in the martinez and geale fights...now add it to the 22 mil hell make for the canelo fight which he brough the wbc belt to....cotto made out very well....hes not that dumb
People with tiny barins always think that things are easy or black and white, but usually it is not the case. There are multiple lineages or questionable lineages at times. For example, read this article and maybe you will grow a couple of brain cells (which should double your number): http://www.arcaneknowledge.org/sports/linealprob.htm
To me, the WBC stripping Cotto of their version of the world middleweight title is great news, because Cotto was an utter fraud of a middleweight champion, fighting Martinez, Geale, and now Alvarez at catchweights, and all the while ducking Golovkin. But to me, it gets a little tricky from here. I was planning on rooting for Alvarez on Saturday night, but now, I am wondering if it would be better for boxing if Cotto wins, and Golovkin gets elevated from the WBC interim title to the full world title, thus instantly unifying three of the four major world titles? But does the WBC typically elevate interim champions to full champions without first having to go through a fight against the top available contender? It would seem a bit cheap if Golovkin was elevated to full champion because of some administrative/paper rule. On the other hand, if Alvarez won, while I'm sure he would eventually give Golovkin a shot, how quick would he be to do so? Would there be delays while Alvarez takes other fights, such as a Cotto rematch, a Mayweather rematch, or even a Bradley fight? Bottom line, while ultimately I want Golovkin to get the chance to become undisputed world middleweight champion, I think today's action by the WBC on Cotto raises issues here that still need sorting out.
My bet is this. If Cotto wins, he will ask for 155 against GG, and GG will say no. That's why Cotto does not care about losing the title. IMO the WBC probably should've asked for the sanctioning fee in the beginning instead of days before the fight. But I do see why they did what they did. They truly want Canelo to be there champion. Canelo by opening his mouth saying that he wan't a mw kind of disappointed me because he could very well do the same thing. But this is based on "truthful" speculation lol. Lol!
I guess bro,, if it ain't **** for him to throw away 1mil then ok.. I'd personally just keep the mil if I knew I wasn't gonna fight for the belt anyway.. But that's just me...
he paid 800k to ggg.....and is now saving 2-300k....meanwhile by paying 800k to ggg hes making 22+mil for fighting canelo....ever heard the expression "gotta spend money to make money"?
You seriously have me lost. There will be no answer. It's just assumptions to why Cotto didn't drop the belt over the summer.
The WBC happens to have the lineal champion as its champion. Usually they get it right in terms of who should fight for a vacant title if the lineage is broken. The fans might scream he should fight this guy-same for the organization. It's rare that we don't get #1 and #2 fighting each other over a title being stripped in any way.
