Golovkin and Cotto are going to fight.... in court!

Why they couldn't wait?

 

If the WBC was honorable, they'd declare the title vacant and let the #1 and #2 contenders fight for it, Canelo was neither that and the only reason they're letting the title be at stake for Canelo is because the greedy ****s want a chunk of Canelo's multi-million dollar purse for it.

 

So if you're stripped of the title... There is no point to paying GGG now is there? He's not stepping aside anymore? The Canelo fight isn't GGG's bizness anymore is it? The step aside deal was "contingent" on the WBC belts and order. With WBC stripping Cotto, it seems to me at least that the contingencies are stripped along with it.

It's not a title fight for Cotto anymore is it? They've stripped Cotto so whatever there was before is no more now. Thus there is no point to the step aside deal with GGG. Deals are ongoing and contingent.

If Cotto is no longer defending the middleweight title, why is the WBC going to hand Canelo over the middleweight championship if he beats Cotto who no longer is the WBC middleweight champion????????????????

Canelo is no longer fighting the Champion but he'll get handed the WBC title belt if he beats non-champion Miguel Cotto!

I'll tell you how you explain it.
If the WBC did the honorable thing, they'd let Golovkin fight for their title belt against the #2 contender.
That scenario however gets the WBC a pittance of a sanctioning fee in comparison to the 3% they'd get from Canelo's multi-million dollar fight purse.

If Canelo was a run of the mill fighter with peanuts for a fight purse, believe me, the WBC middleweight title would not be at stake for him on Saturday night with Cotto already being stripped.

 

Wouldn't have been more honorable if GGG refused the money and told Cotto is not about the money but glory. But he sold his soul to Cotto by taking the money.

As to why golovkin wasn't paid yet if there was a written agreement, what if said agreement hypothetically said that the money would be paid from Cotto's purse, just as sanction fees often are? In that case, the money would be likely only be disbursed after the fight.

Such arrangements would make sense, because if for some reason the fight is postponed or cancelled, the step-aside-payer wouldn't be on the hook regardless. The winner of a hypothetical court case will likely hinge upon whatever written terms there were for this thing, which is not public knowledge as far as I know.
