Make no mistake, I'm just speculating here, and I'm as clueless as anyone else about the details of what actually transpired, and the legality of any of it. But if the step aside money was dependent upon Cotto holding the title when he faced Canelo, then GGG could potentially be getting screwed on a loophole technicality, and in that case, I wouldn't be surprised if Cotto, Canelo, the WBC, and all of their people were in on this possible (likely?) outcome all along. It reminds me of a cool song I recently heard on YouTube about the WBC screwing Gennady hard.
lol@ people talking about cotto spending a couple/few mil on laywer fees and acting like its a major hit in the pocket......you do realize how much money hes making for this fight right? how much hes made between sergio, geale, and canelo?....his lawyer fees will be what ggg makes for his next fight.....and it wont hurt cotto one bit yer walking around this thread puffing your chest out like some know it all...and you fail to realize a couple mil is a drop in the bucket to cotto here
I'm a Ward fan, but you are 100% right. Ward's talent is superb, but his credibility is grossly lacking right now, and he's going to have to put in some serious work in order to ever be taken seriously again.
exactly....been one of my points all along hes just sitting there.....and i guess you cant blame him....he knows the game and what goes and how its played.....you cant blame him when hbo is gonna pay him 2mil for a fight with monroe or whoever.......hbo is partly to blame but they need to cultivate a star and selling ggg is like selling crack to kids ggg cant keep playing the victim card....sooner or later you have to grow up and make something happen..... like ive said...kovalev is feared and a killer too....he got a 50 year old guy in the ring with him.....he got pascal in there and beat him up...and pascal wants to do it again!!!.....but ggg cant get a big fight? why? because he only wants fights against smaller guys or older faded guys like froch...or a name like chavez......but then ward? nope he goes the other way.....
Despite all the talk about Ward and Kovalev, I still think Ward is holding out on the slimmest of hopes that circumstances might shift in his favor where a Ward-Golovkin bout can become remotely plausible prior to facing the monster which is Sergey. I don't think it's likely, but the landscape should be a bit clearer after this weekend, when the dust begins falling into whatever position we'll soon find ourselves in.
Exactly, I don't blame him/don't care but he's a guy that knows what he's doing and makes millions doing it..he needs no defense.
I know but what you're saying makes sense, if Cotto gets robbed and/or the mandatory is not enforced for Canelo I think WBC needs to be under investigation. There's just too much blatant corruption to be allowed.
:good And he can't just walk away now, not after giving hope to fans about a fight between him and Kovalev!
Evidence? Where? Cotto isn't the promoter of the event. And, if the WBC has a problem with their belt being part of the promotion, what does that have to do with K2 and the Triple Duck? What agreement?
I know but there has to come a tipping point, surely? This is why this sport is going down the drain because there's just nothing to regulate these "sanctioning bodies". There needs to be far tighter control to ensure the fairness, it's especially needed in this sport as these guys put their lives at risk to make a living.
LMAO. Canelo is getting a chance to win the WBC 160 title because of the *sanctioning fees* the WBC will get to collect. Boxing is a *business*. Pay attention. What deal?
