Yup. They were quiet on promotion too... I guess hoping it'd sell similarly to the way Mayweather/Pacquiao fight. Difference is, Mayweather and Pacquiao sold itself. ESPN was talking about it everyday for months leading up to the fight. The hype of Canelo/Cotto doesn't even eclipse that of May/Pac. Roc Nation and GBP HAD to promote this fight better. I know they don't want to spend the money, but it was necessary. Doing two interviews back in the summer on EPSN and then a couple hours worth of footage isn't enough. As much as no fan on here likes to admit, this is still a hardcore fan's fight. The promotion would help it suck in casuals, and they didn't do nearly enough. Perhaps after the PPV doesn't meet expectations it'll show promoters that they can't sell fights off fighters' names or rivalries anymore (not like May and Pac) to have a PPV success. They're going to HAVE to do more promoting.
I realize this fight hasn't been pumped up the way it could/should be...I haven't seen or heard much about it in the mainstream but the way I look at it...I think the companies have become realists about the ppv model....the way I see it the people who are/were going to buy this ppv are going to buy it.....its not going to really gain any casuals through heavy mainstream promotion.....word of mouth does well enough with these two fan bases...I don't think the companies are into wasting the money when in reality, for a fight like this, it probably isn't going to make enough of a difference.....Mexican fight fans that were going to get this are gonna get this...the PR fans the same....word spreads through those cultures through word of mouth easily.....and the hardcore fight fans that know about it and wanna watch are gonna buy.......
So you now know what each and every boxing fan buysatsch Man go back to your Mom and share a cup of baby gravy :smoochfrom your homies and get the FK off my nutz Baby gravy drinker:deal Skeet Skeet Skeet In yo face:tong
If that is the case they should all be fired :deal I have never heard of a PPV that must sell that amount to break even in my life:yikes
I remember when this fight was first announced seeing articles saying it could do 2 million PPV buys, then 1-1.5 million, now 1 million. I never thought it would sell that much, they both usually do about 300-350K, so 700-800K would be a good result for their 2 combined fan bases. Cotto isn't a cross over star, if he was he would have already become one as he's been around forever and Canelo is still young and growing as an attraction, he agreed to the smaller purse in the hope that this would give him a signature win to take him to that next level of popularity.
cotto with pac and mayweather reached over a million.. canelo with mayweather 2nd all time. they're pretty known by the PPV buyers.. i would say 600-700k buys for this fight
I think the Floyd/Pac debacle left a bad taste in peoples mouths and theyre going to be hesitant to shell out 60 bucks for a fight they think could end up being boring. The casuals dont realize neither of these fighters is going to run for 12 rounds like Floyd did because these guys are showing up to actually fight.
Canelo gets no PPV rev, and Cotto is getting 20%, with 750k they still make 3-4m. You're such an idiot that you ignore the math that I did for you the other day, and will do anything to try and discredit this PPV because how big of a failure Golovkin/Lemieux was. Was it a financial failure? No, but no one expected GGG/Lemieux to do that low, the general consensus was that he'd sell 250-500k ppvs. 150k was a huge failure for GGG, his pay check is going to be the same, and his future on PPV is definitely going to be in question now.
