It's Lewis's clear fouling that most annoys me, left arm round Vit's neck but still hitting and tearing with the right glove in all six rounds, two rule breaches he got away with that won him the fight on injury. I've never seen either K-Bro resort to those tactics, always clean fighters.
Are you really going to suggest that Ali beat Norton in their rematch? Come on OD...you're better than that, surely?
Lewis would never underestimate Tyson therefore Tyson gets battered by a motivated, slightly ****ed off Lennox 11 times out of 10.
comparing HWs from different eras on a head to head basis is a complete waste of time. the size of the HWs now makes it pointless
History will look upon a 37 year old beating his successor, and future all time great heavyweight, on 2 weeks notice favourably. Never has there been a Lennox Lewis above 250 pounds focused and training hard. It's usually indicative of the fact he thinks his opponent is irrelevant - Rahman and Johnson. With Tyson, Holyfield and Bowe in his rear view. Lewis was all about the money. He had designs on silly gimme fights like Johnson and perhaps and an easy pay day in RJJ. The Vitali fight clearly showed him he was finished mentally, if not a little bit physically. The backlash after that fight was epic, rather than people being amazed at the spectacle of 2 elite super heavies going at it. All Vitali did was enhance Lewis legacy as he went onto forge his own impressive career. Would I have liked Lewis to rematch him? Yes! The alpha in all of us feels that is the honourable way to settle things BUT credit to Lewis for being honest with himself and accepting his time was over. If only Roy had done that after Tarver I.
I think what really enhanced Lewis reputation from the fight was the willingness to slug out when the original plan want working. Manny told Lewis he had to fight vitali and that's what he did. Busted up his face bad!!!
