Will Wlad push for a rematch or does he retire?

Congrats Fury.

 

I didn’t mean any disrespect to the fighters you mention, I just stopped the list at a certain point in time!

 

Wlad should retire. He couldn't let his hands go. Classic sign of a shot fighter. However if he wishes to fight a rematch he has earned that right. To me he showed he could hurt Fury if he could just let his hands go. Which he couldn't.

 

Looked the same boring grab + hold fighter to me

 

Watch this bout. Then watch Ali Frazier 3. Skill levels have improved? Two lumbering very low skilled hwts in that ring tonight.

 

All respect to Fury, but has there ever been a lineal champion, who had a worse record going into the crucial fight?

 

The spectacle was pretty dire, but Fury's game plan was sound.

 

This fight finally showed the limitations of Klitschko as well as the effect father time has on fighters. Fury used movement and speed to keep Klitschko off balance and showed that there was no plan B in his ****nal. Just imagine what a fighter like Holmes or Ali would have done to him.

 

Well there's a smile on my face. I will be collecting some cash tomorrow. As glad as I am to pick an upset winner, (check out post #963) his was no master class was it? Is this progress for heavyweight boxing? No. (Especially not singing). But Fury is good enough to be world champion today. You can't take that away.

Wlad has been a good champion but I always had a hunch that against a guy not letting Wlad control the pace and with his size advantage neutralized against a live seasoned guy his own size with a better work rate he would not look so good. People can argue that he got old but everybody looks old when they are not getting things their own way. Povetkin lost to the same guy.

 

Which one of the guys in Manilla was 39?

 

I wish I had followed my hunch and put down some cash but I promised the old lady a while ago...

He got old. He looked way worse than he did against Povetkin or Jennings. How many other champions do you measure their legacy on their performances at 39 years?

 

Cr*p fight. Wlad looked like a 39 year old in there. He was 28 the last time he lost. Father Time catches up to them all in the end. I still don't think much of Fury but he did what he had to do so well done to him.

 

Plenty of them.

 

Issue is skill level. Neither hwt in the ring tonight had the basic boxing skills of Ali or Frazier. Not one iota. This one bout shows those who really know boxing technically how low the hwt division has sunk. In terms of Wlad it's the same robotic, refusing to take any chances, stand up amateur European style we have seen from him. No different. Ali or Louis at their best would beat both these fighters on the same night. Horrifically poor skill level by both fighters.
