To beat a bigger fighter, you normally have to be very aggressive. Tyson, Marciano, Frazier and Dempsey were classic examples.
Steward based his heavyweight style on being the bigger man, the jab and grab technique doesn't work on someone taller than you with decent footwork as shown last weekend.
He based most fighters styles on it because they were tall and long. He wasn't to big on teaching fighters actual defense like blocking, slipping, and rolling. Take a look at Gerald McClellan and Thomas Hearns, there defense was their jab and their reach. The only Steward fighter I can think of who didn't just jab and grab, but who used defense and fought on the inside was Mike McCallum. McCallum however was a technician no matter who trained him.
