I'm sure I remember something about Eubank was demanding a 60/40 split and Benn (obviously) wasn't going to go along with that. But anyway, yeah, I would watch the fight. I think it would generate a lot of buzz whether or not the fight could live up to it.
Quote: Nigel Benn has revealed just how close he was to a third fight with arch-rival Chris Eubank, claiming they could have made up to £10million each for an extraordinary grudge rematch. Talks started over the bout three years ago but the history of difficult relations between the two iconic faces of British boxing could not be overcome. Benn, 51, claims there were backers from Dubai, Manchester and Ireland who were ready to invest heavily in re-running one of the most famous duels in sport. Eubank, now 49, won by stoppage in their first fight in 1990 Wednesday will mark the 25th anniversary of the bout before a controversial draw was awarded for the 1993 rematch at Old Trafford, which many felt Benn had won. Organisers had hoped to stage a trilogy fight in March 2016, but Benn is adamant the match is now off. He told Sportsmail: 'People don't know it but almost everything was in place. But have you met Chris? 'We had backers from Dubai, Manchester, Ireland we would make £5m to £10m each, everything split evenly. Not one word of a lie. 'We spent three bloody years talking. But Chris is impossible.' http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/bo...gel-Benn-nearly-Benn-Eubank-III-10m-each.html
Although more recently... Earlier in the week Been tweeted that he was "fitter than ever": After hearing the tweet, Eubank seemed excited about stepping back in the ring. "Well, as long as he accepts what we're going to offer him," Chris revealed about the proposed fight, adding: "Yes, we're possibly on... possibly." http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/chris-eubank-confirms-nigel-benn-6937113
I'd love to see this fight. They are both looking good and will probably put on a better fight than many we have seen in recent times..:bbb Oh and the winner will fight Froch :good
Would definitely watch this. From what I've seen and heard, I'm not so sure Eubank really fancies it. Benn however seem's right up for it.
Primes are absolute. Your peak is your peak. Ageing is different for all. The fight is now irrelevant and tells us nothing. It's egos looking for pay days.
This. Don't get me wrong, i would still watch the fight, but it shouldn't change either of their respective historical standing. It's a bit like Collins still chasing after Jones. Let it go.
If it's a good fight, why should they let it go ? Who cares if it tells us anything. If it's a good old fashion competitive all action tear up (which i suspect it would be) then boxing is boxing. I agree with this far more than the likes of Roy Jones still trying to cut it with kids half his age almost and getting badly beaten. I don't think this in any way messes with their legacy. I agree with above post though in that I think Eubank pretends he is up for it but is only offering terms that he is fairly confident won't be accepted by Benn.
Sad thing is that in times like this when people fight not to lose (Mayweather), these two would go ALL OUT!
I agree Brixton, it was less of a contrived business back then. These days a promotor gets an average fighter and promises them a decent paid career if he allows his opponents to be hand picked, as opposes to be thrown in to the 'right' fight, risk losing it and then back to being paid pennies to fight. they seem to postpone these fights for as long as possible like May/Pac and prob Khan/Brook. It's run by business advisors these days and not boxing people.
I have a feeling the winner of this fight or if Eubank doesn't bother then Benn will have a fight or two then face Froch.. You heard here first :good
I doubt Benn would be treating this as a full comeback and look to fight Froch. If it even happens the Eubank fight would be all Benn would come back for.
