If Calzaghe wouldn't stop Dawson on accummulation - which is possible, given Dawson's recuperative powers after getting tagged - the judges would probably hand over the win to Dawson, but mostly to pass on the torch and all that.:yep

Right now I'd have to say Dawson but if the fight were held on Calzaghe's home turf the question always abounds "how well does he handle the boisterous British contigency?"

Lacy completely crumbled under the pressure but Dawson seems mentally tougher than the likable and soft spoken Lacy.

But it's been a long time since the Lacy fight and I don't think Calzaghe looked all that great in his Hopkins fight. Shoeshining a 42 year old is one thing. Beating a bigger, fast handed young champion is another.

That's why there's zero chance of this fight ever happening, ANYWHERE. Better to fight old Roy Jones than risk an undefeated record against a young gun.

Dawson is Joe's obvious stiffest test at 175, but based on their April fights, I'd have to give Calzaghe a slight advantage. Maybe like 52-48 in the United States, and then 60/40 in the UK.

I'm not sure how Dawson will handle Calzaghe's pressure, although he is the only fighter Joe ever would have fought (excluding even today's Jones, I guess) who could punch with him for speed. Plus significantly more power at 175, a 3.5-inch reach advantage.

As I've posted before, I think the fact that Chad is a converted southpaw plays to his advantage as well, especially the right hook downstairs and uppercut. Joe is there to be hit with those shots, and Dawson puts them together beautifully.

Still, Calzaghe has so much more experience, and an aggressive style, and a great chin. If Dawson doesn't improve his defense, I think he'll catch a lot of clean shots and possibly get dropped or even stopped.

Of course, this assumes Calzaghe wouldn't slip any more than he already has.

This is my No. 1 won't-happen fight in boxing. A shame, but I don't blame Calzaghe for cashing in. Too bad this isn't 2004.

If they fought now Joe would be to savy and awkward for Dawson. The way he bamboozled and confused the stronger and far more dynamic Kessler was masterful and Dawson will be no different. Dawson maybe a southpaw but he's always struck me as fairly orthadox in style.
The longer the fight takes too happen, exponentially the more difficult it will become for Joe.

    Gotta laugh.

Not far off 11 years as a world champ and people still doubt Joe can fight. Some people must have a lost a shed load betting against the slapper over the years.

I don't understand how it is a question if Dawson can "handle Joe C's" pressure. This guy handled pressure from a quality LHW in Johnson, one who pressures with actual punches, not slaps, and has a more than adequate defense. Yet, Joe C. who has shown that he is average on the elite level might cause him problems? Are you all serious. Only Brits.

lacy crumbled from the beatdown, and had little to do with mental pressure once the bell rang.

Before the Glen Johnson fight, I would have went with Chad Dawson by Decision, but after seeing the Johnson fight, I would have to go with Calzaghe by Decision. It hurt Dawson not having Floyd Mayweather Sr. in his corner.

Yeah. He's a decent LHW titlist. Joe Calzaghe is a 10 year champ and number one in Chad's division. Chad just had a shakey win over a guy that got his backside beaten out of the division Joe has dominated for the last 10 years. Joe is off coming wins vs 2 fighters that are waaaaay better than anyone Chad has faced let alone beaten.

    Easy fight my backside.
