He is fantastic talent with very quick and heavy hands. Of course his future is being plotted so his cv is being padded this is nothing new Mike Tyson followed the same plan. As a Kiwi i am following and supporting Joe and think KB is doing a great job, a step up in opposition will come this year - I think the time is right to push on - title fight 2016-17. Why risk it to appease a few doubters
He's over hyped as is every exciting prospect who has yet to be tested. He isn't alone in that regard. He still has flaws but the potential is clear. He has some of the quickest hands at heavyweight and has power to go with it. His combination punching is especially quick.
I agree with a lot of this but look at it from a glass half full aspect... I'm kind of sick of all the hating on the people who are the future of this sport. Saying EVERYONE new is over-hyped is a bit weird, if they all are then actually it isn't singling someone out - it's being enthusiastic about the new blood coming through and that's sweet. I think it's bollux that people seem hell bent on cutting down guys who haven't gone wrong just because they aren't "your boy". I remember watching James Buster Douglas, Mike Tyson, Evander Holyfield, George Foreman etc in the 80s and 90s and people had their favourites but for the most part all of the guys were considered potent and exciting - everyone deserved epic respect and the guys in control got EVEN MORE. These days it's just hate on everyone but your favourite, it's weak TBH. Cheer these guys on and enjoy the show. Everyone's gonna get beat eventually, but we aren't the ones taking the risks.
If you look through all his fights - especially against guys like Meehan - I think one of the questions over time may become - "Who can truly 'test' this guy?" His speed, his footwork, his power. He is not getting 'tested' - you are right. He is utterly dominating from the open. The giant Ustinov - who retired Tua - may be one who can go the distance and test Parker. -Should happen in 2016. Are there huge numbers of others? -Kiwi
step backwards for parker. the Kiwi's need to put some money up and get a top 20 guy now or somebody like a Mariusz Wach or Johann Duhaupas, a tough guy, who will test Parker.
He's a young prospect keen on improvement. I expect great things from him. [YT]watch?v=jNr0LjvpRu8[/YT]
In 2016 both Joshua and Parker will be stepping up big-time. We will then see what we are really dealing with.
Parker has fast hands, deceptive power and decent size. The guy is universally ranked in the top 10. He is only 23 years old. He is doing exactly as he should, beating guys he should be beating. Anyone outside the top 10 is going to look average against him. What more can he do? Whyte fought Costa Junior, Minto and Nascimento AFTER Parker had already dispatched them Keep an eye on his stablemate Izu Ugonoh
And Parker has improved in all areas with each of those fights and each fight following on from. His defense and power have both improved a lot in the last 2/3 fights - to the point I think people saying they are questionable probably haven't paid attention recently, or are just biased. Very much this.
Parker is Top 10 in the IBF and Top-5 in the WBO now. His team says they aim to be 'Mandatory' in one of those within 12 months. They are making all the right moves to make this happen. Then Parker CANNOT easily be avoided.
I signed up on this forum to reply to this post. I see so much blind patriotism around Joshua, and head in the sand mentality around Joseph Parker. The head in the sand mentality seems to be from the British boxing public. ALL the governing boxing bodies have him in the Top 15 with one in the top 5. Why? I'm guessing they haven't got their blinkers on like Bluebird. The fact is both Joshua and Parker will be the future of HW. Who comes out on top when they both fight? Who knows? I'd like to think Parker will, the brits will back their man. There is no argument if you are comparing the KO round vs another fighters efforts. While Whyte was swinging, Parker was learning and boxing....Whyte fought these guys you mentioned after Parker. Just saying.
I hate it when people state its a fact that Parker and Aj are the future of the division. Neither have done jack **** to prove their worth yet. Earn your stripes boys, you are just beginning your journeys. Ffs Fury is only 1 year older than Aj, he might reign for a long time yet. Whyte could derail Ajs train for a while next week
