Wlad was his biggest problem that night. He hates being hit and goes into a weird "throw-up-arms motion" as soon as something touches him. Wlad not wanting to get dirty was Fury's biggest weapon. Due to Fury's size Wlad can only win if he starts to get more relaxed when he gets hit and to simply stay with his gameplan, take those weird slaps from Fury and throw his own bombs. Imo Wlad's trainer and his mental state will make or break this fight. He doesn't need a complicated gameplan, he simply needs to overcome himself. For him the fight will be really tough. I think, given the scenario, this will be Wlad's toughest test to date next to the first Peter fight. Granted Futy has no Peter-power, but he does have s size and reach advantage that negated one of Wlads most effective attributes; HIS size/ reach advantage He has faced a few who had equal or close to equal reach but Fury has a clear advantage in that aspect. Snd when combined with good movement (both waist and footwork) that makes for a challenge that is different than the iron chinned, hard punching Peter, but just as hard to overcome (effectively counteract) I think this rematch will be s real test for just how much "fight" Wlad had in him, and how much sheer skill he has that can be altered and adapted to a new fight plan for the uncharted territory of fighting as the smaller man. I am interested to see how much of an inside game Wlad develops. Cause I think that may well be his best approach, given his power and Furys prone to get dropped But Fury is also a decent inside fighter from what I've seen of him, is he not? Needless to say, I think this is gonna be good!!!!
If he can trust his own chin and improve just a bit his punch output without going at war with Fury, he should be fine.
I'm a Fury fan but that was an inspiring post ... For a movie. The reality is if a a 40 year old man comes in like that vs a taller, longer, MUCH younger boxer and doesn't take him out quickly ... Then he gets sparked out and retires in the 2nd or 3rd. Sorry.
The problem is that "fighting tall" is all he's known for the last 10 years. Reprogramming himself, even for just 1 fight, will be extremely difficult.
He just needs to study the tape, a poor display, not enough punches thrown. Some straight right hands down the pipe might be an idea, use the uppercut, go to the body, get into his face.
^Agree Taking on a new approach is going to take a lot of effort and retraining on his part. We know that he is smart enough to realize he has to take on a new approach but how effective will he be straying from his tried-and-true distance controlling style? Can he develop an inside game? Facing a very confident and taller opponent after having just lost will bring out what Wlad is really made of that's going to be what is so interesting in the rematch
I'm not sure there will be a rematch, wlad generally doesn't rematch when hes beaten by a fringer. on the one occasion he did, he waited till that guy was blind and retiring - and he doesn't have that option with furry. going on past wlad actions, it wont happen. when hes been put the spooks on (eg by a defeat) he runs from it.
