Got outclassed by a very aggressive and imposing Mendy, who was always on Campbell's ass with good methodical and effective aggression. Campbell's defence was leaky as hell and he was very inaccurate and reverted to silly powderpuff amateur boxing flurries landing on gloves and elbows while Mendy continued to catch him flush with clean and sharp shots. Luke showed no ability to adapt whatsoever, and didn't earn Mendy's respect even once in 12 rounds with a truly solid power-shot.

    I had it 117-111.

Got knocked down, and lost a split decision though I don't think it was that close myself. Mendy was the aggressor the whole fight.

I agree. Let the guy get up. Only stop it on the floor if its clear a fighter is not getting up. Foster is a terrible ref.

Thanks for the recap RNS, Oxygene, and Blackclouds. I thought Campbell was still too amateurish to succeed on the world level without some real adjustments, but I'm surprised Mendy was the one to pull it off. Props to him, that's a huge win for his career.

Good points guys. I need to rewatch the end of that fight. It's entirely possible that Mitchell should have been allowed to try to get up and been given a count.

Don't get me wrong, I think he's a terrible ref amd he obviously botched the first knockdown but I can't crucify him for the ending.

It looked like he was giving Mitchell the chance to clinch, fight back, something. When he went down, he looked really glassy eyed and Mitchell's reaction probably justified the stoppage.

Maybe Hearns one sided card isn't as bad as everyone made out, Bellew didn't exactly cruise either

You appear to be right. I mean, he still has time to succeed at world level and I don't think it's over, but the sentiment about his style being too amateurish was his downfall. He's not really a "fighter", and even his boxing skill-set is probably overrated. His defence was extremely leaky...
