I get where you're coming from, but imo Bruno was FAR superior to Joshua in every aspect of boxing...and he had a much better chin (Big Frank tended to get stopped whilst taking a hiding, rather than go down for the 10).
Bruno's poor stamina was undoubtedly his achilles heel, but I would suggest that it seems as though it was quite a margin better than AJ's. One things for sure, AJ best improve that stamina!!
Couple of notes from my head: We don't know who he fought tonight. Whyte could be decent or very average. Let's be honest, probably the latter. However , I like Whyte's sprit and he deserves a lot of respect. The stuff that went on at the end of the 1st round was Joshua's doing and we have seen him hit an opponent when on the canvas before. Joshua's power didn't carry through the first round really. He got Whyte out of there but he is certainly not a murderous puncher. He showed some stamina. After looking screwed in the 2nd he came back well. But the tempo slowed and unfortunately Whyte looked shattered by the 6th. Reflexes and skills- he has some skills but really it's just how he packages it up. Tbh I think he is plodding at times and really there to be hit. He doesn't move his feet at all well. He is 14 months younger than Fury. Enough said. Comparisons to the McDermott fight can't apply here as Fury was a 22 year old carrying weight and inexperienced.
Here we go again.....AJ is obviously complete and utter ****e on last nights performance, but let's just hold on a moment. He's a baby in heavyweight boxing and experience terms. Last night the hatred and animosity was legit, this WAS more like a street fight than a boxing match at times. Lots of nervous energy expelled early on by both fighters early doors and yet it was AJ who got a second wind. AJ actually changed tactics after a poor round 2/3 by starting to go to the body. He does look stiff and over muscled at times but, he relaxed more into things the longer the fight went. DW's chin I would argue is better than average and yet he got iced by the less than world level power punching AJ. There were negatives in AJ's performance but, I'm not prepared to write him off just yet. Plenty of room for improvement granted, but there's a good base there to work with and he knows that. Doubt he's even at 75% potential yet so I'm not gonna get on his case just yet! unlike some people.....
I've watched this three times now, with and without commentary, what I really picked up on in the first 3/4 rounds was, emotion, pride and macho man antics really took its toll on these two, credit where credit is due to both but I feel class prevailed, from mid round 4 onwards. However I do believe this fight would of been completely different if there was no history or bad blood previously.
Yep chin and stamina seemed okay. Stamina should improve too with more training, experience, longer fights etc.
It's worrying the way he reacted when he got hit in that 2nd round. He just lost all reflexes and was a punching bag for a few seconds. A better fighter than Whyte (there are many of them) would have taken him out there and then.
