I think the Bruno comparison is a better one than the Lewis one.

Joshua is robotic, too bulked up.

You can't compare any current heavyweight to Lennox Lewis let's be realistic

I think Joshua will be more successful than Bruno

Heavyweight division isn't half as strong as it used to be

Unfair to compare him to Lewis. But they are some similarities with Bruno.

Time will tell and time is exactly what Joshua needs. Let him develop and learn.

Anthony Joshua, having proved he has the chin for which Frank Bruno would have given his left arm, must keep his head on his shoulders.

(that's the opening sentence from daily mail reviewing Joshua's fight. When comparison to Bruno came up Woodhall on five live said that those were the kind of punches that would have made Bruno lose his senses and stopped him)

Only in the Oliver McCall fight did Bruno react properly when he was hurt ie he held on or ran.
I don't remember Bruno throwing an uppercut or a hook with the same technique as Joshua.
I hope he is more Lewis than Bruno, fingers crossed

    Harsh on Bruno isn't it.

Only really big punches that landed on Bruno had him in trouble. His chin wasn't the problem it was his stamina and his inability to clinch when hurt.

Was Whytes left hook that hurt Joshua as hard as Witherspoons, Tyson's and Lewis' punches that hurt Bruno? **** Jumbo Cummings punch that hurt Bruno woulda flattened a lot of men.

Sensationalist journalism and also dissapointing comment from Richie Woodhall.

Taking nothing away from Joshua btw.

    It's their opinion though

My opinion upto now is that Joshua is nowhere near Lennox Lewis (but neither are any of current active heavyweights)

    But better than Bruno

Bruno was way more robotic IMO and muscle bound

I can see some similarities for sure but I just know that I always doubted Bruno as a boxer and although Joshua is clearly vulnerable (as are ALL heavyweights including lennox) I just rate Joshua higher

    It's opinion though

Well it's Jeff Powell from Daily Mail saying Bruno would have given his right arm to have Joshua's chin

Not exactly inexperienced - he knows the game inside out

Bruno did used to just freeze when the big punch landed - that's what Woodhall was saying and I know what he means

It would just stop him cold kind of - even though he stayed on his feet most of the time

Yes he did and I feel Joshua sorta done the same thing tbh (Freeze), even if only for a split second but I still wish he reacted a bit better if I'm being honest. With a few days to reflect.

Yeah it's a fair point from Woodhall but I feel Bruno took a lot harder punches than that. They just looking for comparisons.
I don't care how long Jeff Powell been about its still a sensationalist line, nothing more mate.

But clearly he feels Joshua passed a test or he wouldn't have said it

And I've only highlighted what both he and Woodhall said as they both compared Joshua's chin to Brunos favourably and it's relevant to this thread

Woodhall also said this was best heavyweight fight for action and punches thrown that he could remember since he was a kid

And he compared first 3 rounds to similar to a heavywwight version of hagler v hearns!

Obviously OTT but have to say it was exciting listening on the radio driving back home.

People need to go watch the first few rounds of Bruno McCall, as I said earlier Bruno wasn't such a stiff fighter later in his career especially from the Lewis fight when he took on new training techniques.

I like AJ and I hope he can improve and if he is half the fighter Bruno was in McCall fight after 15 fights then future is bright.

Thats the problem tho. Their setting joshua up for a fall. Its affecting his tactics already. You can tell hes under pressure to knock these guys out as quick as he can. I ve seen everything i need to see after saturday night. People saying he passed the test. To me i think he failed it...in terms of being the next heavyweight saviour. He took about 2 or 3 decent punches. The first locked him down the second the body shot nearly folded him. As great as tyson was he himself started struggling a lot more with the top guys with a seek and destroy gameplan. And that was with good stamina. Ten times better head movement. Much better chin and much better speed. Joshua as well as wilder haye furys gonna make a great division but joshuas gonna buckle much like wilder will sooner or later. Dont want to come across as negative but really a reply to the people who many believed before saturday nite he would pretty much destroy all comers easily.

Don't think anyone doubts that at some stage Joshua will get knocked out badly same as they all do

Including Frazier, Foreman, Liston, Tyson and Lennox and Bruno several times who is who we are comparing Joshua to

But it's what he can win before or in between or after that you have to focus on

Will he go undefeated - course not - can he win some world titles - I think so

At this size and power none of them are going to cruise through their fights winning titles and not getting into trouble

That's why it's one of the most if not the most exciting division to watch by and large and always has been

Obviously you havnt read a lot of Jeff Powell's articles in the last few years- the guy seriously talks twaddle on boxing and football

To give you a few examples: He said the Joshua vs Whte fight was hardly worth watching as it would all be over in 90 seconds ( I guess a few others had that prediction) and his scorecard for the fight only gave one round to Whyte - the 6th round.

In the build up to Mayweather vs Pacman all he did was focus on how Pacman had all the tools to destroy Mayweather and that he was in the shape of his life. Powell's scorecard after the fight had the fight a draw.

For those who follow football he didnt like Barcelona under Pep, and he thinks Lionel Messi is overrated.

I wouldnt trust anything Powell says. Bruno didnt have a bad chin ( only ever Knocked down by James Smith, Tim Witherspoon and Mike Tyson I believe) He did have an inability to defend himself when hurt as his body seemed to freeze. I saw the same thing happen to Joshua - although very briefly - and I dont believe Joshua looked comfortable in the 2nd or 3rd round
