Haye's resume at heavyweight was sh!t anyway, I'm not sure what impresses people so much about him. His KO of Chisora is by far his best HW performance, imo. The only decent young fighter he ever faced at HW. And if Chisora had Joshua's power he might well have won that fight. The way people talk about Haye being some super-fighter is ridiculous. Sure, Joshua is a flawed hype job maybe, but so was Haye. Haye's WBA title defenses against a washed-up old Ruiz and the legend that is Audley are not exactly better than the fight Joshua just won.
It's not just about resume. It is about styles, too. If predicting who would win a fight against whom was solely about who had the better resume then match making would be easy. The fact is, Haye, at his best at HW was hard to pin down and hit. He also had very good power. AJ right now is inexperienced and can be hit. He needs more expeience on how to pin down tricky fighters and set traps to get his openings; a must for anyone if they want to beat someone like Haye. Haye probably won't be at his best, but if he is close enough to it then a fight with AJ right now is not worth the risk.
He did well vs vs John Ruiz. I thought that was his best hw display as Ruiz was a notoriously hard guy to beat or put away as many big names of the 90's and 00's can attest to. Chisora was a good display also.
Out of interest and obviously ignoring the klitschko debacle, who do people find more exciting to watch Haye or Joshua?
You say that as if AJ is always methodical. All he ever does is blast people out. Haye would be too slick for him.
If the fight was announced today I would put my money on Joshua. I think at this point Haye will be too past prime to deal with Joshua's youth, size and power combined with handspeed. Joshua would probably fight smart and follow Wlad's blueprint but with a little less cautio. Haye would have less jabs and grabs to deal with but more dangerous power shots to be wary of. Haye could always win by landing nice counters but I think he's too past it to pull it off and I would favour AJ.
Cut a long story short, there is no point in taking a chance with Joshua and Haye just now. It is risky. If Joshua backed Haye against the ropes and let his hands go I would be fairly confident in victory, however why take that chance, Josh has only had 1 proper fight as a pro.
If Haye is 50% of the fighter he was 3 years ago he beats Joshua every single time. However we don't know how good he will be after a long time out, I feel he would make Joshua look slow and find it way too easy to land on him.
it's all silly hype, Haye will NEVER get back to his best, and if he does he will be too small for Joshua, as soon as he feel that power he will get a touch of the Thompson
who said major honours has to be a world title ? I would have said, British then European titles are pretty major in the overall scheme of things !!
It wasn't long ago people were saying "Fury was British level. Haye is world level" Haye might have been "world level" once but he was clear outclassed when he stepped in with the real world champion. His best win at HW is against Chisora probably. He fought old versions of Valuev, Ruiz, Barrett ... they were never great fighters anyway ... and he beat Audley. That's it. He continues the habit fighting sh!t opponents in January, unless he gets injured. Dillian Whyte probably beats most those HWs Haye beat. Never mind Joshua. The rampant Haye love never made sense, never will.
