Regarding Tyson's punch resistance: he took some monstrous shots from Lewis. Also, the uppercut Douglas landed on Tyson which proceeded the knockout combo: that one shot on its own would have been enough to lay 99% of heavyweights out cold.

But, I get your point: Tyson never had the powers of recovery of, say, Holyfield, Holmes, or Ali himself.

 

Ali beats prime 20 year old tyson. I seen an early fight of tysons where he fought this tall goofy looking white guy with red hair and the guy kept mike away with a nice jab and some movement and went 6 rounds iirc. Now you put in Ali from the first liston fight and mike gets beat and maybe quite easily.

 

Tyson over 12, Ali over 15.

Tyson because Ali would try and clown and pull tyson in for the clinch but unlike better clinchers and inside fighters like Jack johnson ali was susceptible to the left hook and would be susceptible IMO to tyson's uppercut.

great matchup. But If I have money I'm going to bet on tyson, and not feel the bit regretful of it.

That's a pretty wild imagination you got there. The first person to take Tyson to round 6 was Jesse Ferguson. And Tyson was 17-0 at the time.

 

Tyson would not have laid a glove on a peak Ali.

 

Tyson wasn't much of an inside fighter.

Also Ali clinched (illegally) from the back of the head, making an uppercut difficult to execute.

The left hook certainly was a punch Ali was susceptible to but Ali was the greatest heavyweight ever at judging distance.

 

Ali would also not have been intimidated by Tyson; he would have got into Tyson's head at the first press conference, sewed the seeds of doubt, and destroyed Tyson mentally.
