He seems to have a hard on for wanting to fight Periban, he's been mentioned as a possible opponent prior to Smith and the under card of Canelo/Cotto, so this will be the 3rd time he's been interested in fighting him. Another pointless fight that does nothing to build his eventual match with Kovalev. Ward is now campaigning at light heavyweight, why is he trying to drag up a super middleweight to light heavy. It was OK for the Canelo/Cotto undercard as it was short notice and it would make sense as an opponent may not be able to make weight on such short notice but that is not the case now. Ward should be properly preparing for Kovalev by facing a light heavyweight, not some poor super middleweight he's dragged up a division. Him beating a super middleweight does nothing for establishing any kind of credentials at light heavy. We already know he's the world's best super middleweight, what we want to know is how he does at 175lbs against a true light heavyweight.
I honestly don't think he wants to fight at 175 or fight anyone decent for that matter Thubj about it he signed with ROC nation in januaray, his been free to fight all year and in his comeback year all he could muster was staging a chubby barely domestic level 168 pound fighter. Its a bad sign
Nothing new: Murdoch, Brand, Periban are all B-C level SMWs. Ward is consistent. Barrera rumors were just for publicity.
I agree, it's not been a good year for Ward, the last year has been a complete right off. I'd like to think that this last year has been due to the incompetence of his team and himself to manage his career rather than a desire to not fight challenging fights. I also think he lack of drawing power is effecting the level of opponents he can attract. He is unwilling to make less and give opponents a better purse and it's meaning he's left trying to fight the Smith's, Brandt's, Murdocks etc rather then facing a decent opponent. Either way it's a situation of his own creation, he should have never of left Goosen.
his next "layoff" will last 20 months, just to stay on his track, there for there's no neeed to see him fight Will Smith, Marc Antonio PeriBUM or whoever the **** he find guarding the local mall. he needs to step up
I actually don't think he's got the hunger any more, He made his way to the top and normally when you do that you become the name that everyone wants to see and everyone falls over themselves trying to get a fight with you. Years of inactivity and an unpopular style mean he has to put in much work than he is doing if he wants to be a PPV star and earn more money, he actually has to challenge himself, I just don't think his heart is in it anymore
James DeGale knocked out Periban in 3 rounds. Of course Andre Ward wants no part of DeGale. He'd rather go for the leftovers.
Talk of Periban, fighting Smith, calling out GGG, it doesn't look like he has any ambition at LHW. I'd be very surprised if the Kov fight takes place in 2016
This. Ward has slowed down a bit, which at his age is all due to him being inactive. If he can get his reflexes sharp again He can rule 175. That said I think Ward has gotten lazy and is doing just enough to get by. That won't work against other elite fighters.
