bailey, Not to my knowledge. But so what? Anyone who's open to an objective debate, will look at both the positive and the negative aspects of a fighters career, before hopefully giving an honest opinion that's based on logic. I always try and be objective. I only mention the negative aspects of a fighters career if I think it's relevant. Why don't you take a look at what you've wrote below: "What is it that people forget about Toney? Do they not remember the Williams, Tiberi, Thadzi, Griffin fights or how he was behind against Nunn or the amount of SDs he fought to?" Is that being objective? You're obviously implying that it would have been foolish for anyone to have picked Toney due to the above. It's complete nonsense. What have Thadzi and Griffin got to do with anything? Why do you keep mentioning that he was behind against Nunn? So what? Nunn was elite. Let me know when GG fights a guy who's anywhere near that level. Regarding Eubank not drawing with a guy like Williams, so what? My point was to highlight your lack of objectivity. I'm not trolling. Again, I mentioned some negative points of Eubank's career, because it was relevant to the point that we were debating. What you're doing here is completely different. It would be like me saying I think Roy could have beaten Kovalev when he was prime, and you scoffing at the notion by saying something like: "How can you forget that Roy lost to Tarver, Johnson and Calzaghe etc" Do you understand? This thread is asking people how they think the best MW version of Toney would have done against the current version of GG. Stop being silly. They were both elite fighters. Good points, but as we know, everyone's circumstances are different. I like GG and he's looking great. But he hasn't yet fought elite fighters like Toney did, and his schedule isn't as hectic. :good
atsch Yeah, I'm sure Toney is one of your favourite fighters. You said he was always fat. You were wrong. You also said he had poor movement. You were wrong. He had a great defence, one of the best in the game. He had great upper body movement and he was a great counter-puncher. There is no evidence to support the theory that GG puts him to sleep when he was at his best. And if your theory is based on 'your two eyes' then go to the opticians as soon as possible. :good
hell no, i'd pick toney ud with ggg by ko being less likely than the draw, probably less likely than aliens landing in the ring too.
GGG is simply not fast enough of hand and foot to even remotely trouble JT @ 160. Toney feasted on guys that came to him, add in GGG's average speed and fairly high output and James would simply be teeing off counters all night. After 6 rounds of hitting nothing but gloves and elbows, Toney starts to put combinations together and starts a huge beatdown. I've not seen GGG hurt, but then I've not seen him fight anyone with remotely comparable skills with a decent punch. I'd favour a Toney late stoppage, between rounds 10 to 12. This is a horrific style matchup for Golovkin, he'd be counter punched all night. He may hang on til the end, but I wouldn't fancy his chances.
this would be a great fight. toney could make him look like an amateur. but i feel like either man could win this one
Toney has an iron chin, great at slipping and countering, ATG defense.. I have seen GGG hit enough to believe Toney would land often..I think Toney at his very best would possibly be a nightmare for GGG. Styles make fights.
