Interesting matchup, I lean towards Vargas by hard fought decision. More technically sound, he'd get to Martinez with the straight right and his short punches would be key.

Who always managed to fall short when he stepped up. Sergio didn't.

Martinez would not be a step up.. He would at best in on par with Ike Quartey. By no means is Martinez on DLH, Trinidad, or Winky's level.

Thing about Vargas was we never will know how great he could of been and he had the potential to be a top 5 atg at 154, but faced a prime atg in Tito way too soon. I think Vargas had what it took to beat Tito, but he managed to **** off Tito which lead to him facing a very motivated Tito, who went for the ko early which Tito never did. Still, it took Tito almost 12 rounds to ko Vargas aside from hitting Vargas in the nutsack when Vargas was getting back into the fight. 154, without a doubt, Vargas beats Maravilla, Cotto, and Canelo, but at 160, Maravilla turns the tables.

Yeah Sergio who beat Williams twice who pitched a shutout against Winky would have no chance. Pavlik would beat DLH and Trinidad down brutally.

His chin isn't. Once that lighting fast left hand finds Vargas's chin, its lights out. Vargas had a chin made of toilet paper.:deal

    Vargas by brutal stoppage.

    It wouldn't be close.

Vargas would go unbeaten against ***y's career.

    Good fight.

Even slow guys got to Martinez when he slow downed in the mid rounds a bit and stayed in punching range just that fraction longer.

Vargas was deceptively fast in his earlier days and had good kit of punches at his disposal.
But Martinez did have a little more one punch power in that left that could trouble that vulnerable beard.

I do lean towards Vargas aswell.

Kelly KTFO Vargas inside of 8 rounds. Vargas's chin was bad, very bad.

Sergio fought real middleweights, Vargas fought bum middleweights.

Maravilla would work Vargas in any arena in front of any crowd on the planet.
