    very well said.

fiefdoms is exactly right because 'undefeated' homebased fighters with a world title, often a paper one, can generate lucrative revenue at relatively low risk the 'easy money' option is becoming all too familiar.

it's a shame but it works in one sense because the beercan boxing fan doesn't know any better.

Should be a nice W on Calzaghes column.

Pavlik will come forward and Joe will have a field day with him.

    Calzaghe comfortable decision:bbb

Actually I'm mostly interested in peoples opinions as to why it happened.
I think it's a combination of many things. A boxing boom in the states which led to superior training methods over there. Also mafia control and eventually alphabet boys being based in the american continent didn't help euro fighters. I repeat again Duillo Loi.

Yeah its a massive shame. But boxing geeks like us are not gonna generate money like the "Beercan fan" will. They're the guys who'll keep the sport alive.

Gotta go now, nice chatting to you mate!!

    Wont be needed.

I am a fan of Pavlik and prefer his style of fighting to Joe's, BUT Calzaghe is all wrong for Pavlik, as long as Joe can still go 12 hard rounds (which he can) he wont have any trouble with Pavlik.

I would have thought the death toll of approx 50 million across Europe and the fact that the basic infrastructure in most of the continent was kicked to **** would have been more obvious factors.

You are right, but then again no one has said Pavlik is a HoF, future ATG, who could bear SRR either. As far as I'm concerned Pavlik beating Taylor is a bigger win than any of Joe C. barring the decision Joe got over B-Hop.

You may rate Kessler well, but he has fought no one. At least Jermain Taylor fought b-Hop twice and Winky Wright.

Sure. He must have found his titles down the back of the sofa. And defended against club fighters. How else could he have barely lost a round in his career prior to meeting Joe?

For heaven's sake the guy was a unified champ with high class defenses. If that is fighting no one everyone would do it.

i've carried this name before taylor fought hopkins.

get on 'boxingbanter.com' and ask people there how long i've been posting under this name.

but in the meantime, if you disagree with anything i say, let me know what it is so i can respond instead of reaching like you're doing now.

Sure I would agree, if I really did agree? The term world class fighter is very subjective. I guess you could say that world class is anyone who was EVER rated in the top ten of the world rankings in any given weight class. But the rub with that is, that at any given time the people around are not that great, historically speaking. I think that is Calzaghe's problem. He hasn't beaten any real ATG's (near their prime). So when you hear everyone talking about him like he is the coming of god, you have to just wonder what they are basing all this love on? I agree Pavlik is young, and has allot to prove. However fans (myself included) love a big puncher, and a guy that can come from behind. That Pavlik has proven. As a former fighter I have a hard time with the way Calzaghe fights. It doesn't do anything for me, its hard to admire. I think this is a very common feeling about him. Its not that he isn't American, as some Brits might think. I love Hatton, Lewis, Minter, Conteh, and Bruno. Calzaghe seems like a good guy, but just not my style?
