People branch them together as being in the same category: Fight Game /World People act and talk as if they are like sister sports or that they are both just different forms of fighting. The only similarity is that the goal is to hurt your opponent more than they hurt you. But hockey and soccer dont get compared to each other, even though the objective in both is to score more goals than the other team. Boxing is a sport, not fighting. Its dangerous in nature but it is still a sport. MMA is fighting. And it wont be long until they give those guys swords. jk The idea of boxers and MMA fighters competing against each other is absurd and will prove nothing in terms of which is the better sport or has the better athletes. In case you are wondering, this rant stems from those Conor Mcgregor quotes to Floyd where he claims that he is and runs the sport now. Drives me nuts. Sorry for the long one.
I wouldn't get too worked up. I have begun to appreciate MMA more in recent years. However, it will never be boxing. It is sad but in some ways I think it has been an effective marketing tool for boxing. People who are initially MMA fans are exposed to boxing and then become fans. Boxing is often its own biggest enemy. It is run by promoters, under the veil of boxing organizations that just look for the fast buck. When you have multiple champions then in reality you don't have a champion. MMA does a great job scheduling regular events and putting its top fighters against each other. MMA is far from perfect, but as an organization it's at least looking out for the health of its sport.
Boxing is a sport, but there are several ways to win, just like in mma, being by decisions, stoppage, ko, or disqualification. Idk where you get bixing is not fighting tho, 99% of boxers, even journeymen boxers, I've seen them leave guys in tatters in streetfights and in sparring it's the boxers getting the better.
Try to use that judo **** in a bar or a street fight and someone is going to stomp your head. I would bet on a skilled boxer any day
Actually in a street fight, most guys would break their hands if they just boxed. Even with heavily bandaged hands and gloves, lots of boxers break their hands in fights
Yea. I've broken my hand plenty of times. Doesn't mean trying to take a street fight to the ground is a better option.
I agree with the OP though, a lot of the appeal for the MMA is that it's the best form of fighting or some **** if you were in a real life situation, but a lot of boxing fans appreciate just the technical aspects of the sport.
I just don't care about the comparisons. Two different sports. Boxing is my first love but I really like MMA as well, to me there is no competition, I love most sports, then again for both sports I only get into specific fights while not being too interested in others. if I watch a bad boxing fight it doesn't make me start hating boxing, I just take it as a bad fight.
90% of all fights in the street are fist fights that go no longer than 30 seconds. MMA might be better if you were attempting to kill your opponent with no bystanders around
What annoys me is when MMA fans say e.g. "Boxign is just one aspect of fighting, it's boring", that's what makes it fun actually...
And then they boo fighters that don't stand up a majority of the time. And Dana publically humiliates you for winning on points and taking no damage even if you're the best in the sport. Also fight bonuses to artificially influence the outcomes of fights and make them more boxing-like.
For me, I hate it when MMA fighters say they would kill so and so boxer on the ring. Or say stuff like, "they wouldn't last a second in MMA..." No one is arguing that!! Nobody cares and it's true most if not all boxers would lose in a MMA match. I don't get why they keep comparing or saying that stuff. Apples and oranges buddy, apples and oranges...
