He destroyed his own career. Bad influences, bad decisions and alcoholism cut his career short.

Good fighter wish he had kept his drinking under control. He was great for American boxing.

Pavlik was fun to watch. He had his weaknesses as all fighters do, but he was a very good fighter. In addition to his size, heavy hands, and range, he was very "loose" with his hands. He didn't fight tight, his punches seemed to flow freely and smoothly. He had power behind his shots and through good combos. He could throw unusual combos, he could follow a straight right hand with a right uppercut seamlessly. I think I've even seen him uppercut off the jab.

Even when he lost the title to Martinez, when it was said he was getting pretty deep in his drinking problem and abusing his body during training, he was winning after 8 rounds. 4-4 after 8, with the extra point for the KD. Then he just got dominated after he got cut. And looked lousy in his fights after that.

Too bad he seems like such a drunk mess.

Its a shame Pavlik did not take better care of himself. One of the hardest hitting middle weight champs of all time. He had a really exciting style how he would get right in fighters grills and loose as a goose land huge bombs on them and how he did some crafty things in the ring also. If he stayed away from drinking probably would have beat martinez. And him and ggg would have been a really interesting match up. Pavlik could have beat him but who knows ggg is pretty amazing also.

Lmao @ you people bringing up his resume as if it's deep. Taylor is the only name worth bringing up whom he beat. He was entertaining but nothing more than a one-hit wonder.

I still remember watching him come back and beat Taylor and Lampley going nuts. As I wasn't a fan of Taylor in the slightest, I loved every bit of it. That said, a lot of other refs would have stopped that fight much sooner and we wouldn't even be talking about Pavlik now. Thankfully, he was given a chance and made the most of it in that fight. It's a shame his personal troubles ate away at him. I wish we had seem him in vs Williams, but it just wasn't meant to be.

Prime Pavlik kills the Triple Duck. Too bad Pavlik didn't have it together mentally. It would have made for a lot more excellent MW fights.
