Shannon Briggs vs David Haye almost done deal for May 21st clash @ O2 Arena London

The pre fight trash talk will be legendary

 

Meh, step up from De Mori anyway.

Briggs has been feasting on the same level of guys that padded De Mori's record but at least he 1) fought stiff competition for a good stretch of his career before the bum tour of the last several years, 2) has an unquestionably better chin than De Mori and 3) has, unlike De Mori, at least the nominal puncher's chance versus Haye.

 

Hmmmmm...

I'd probably give this currently 'well past it' Briggs some acknowledgment if he took this fight and managed to win. If he can't beat a rusty former Cruiserweight, then he'll just prove what has been suspected for years -- that he's got no business being anywhere near a title shot.

As for Haye, as sad as it may be, this fight really does make sense for him to take on his way back into the HW mix. He's wearing considerable ring rust and his recent one round comeback bout didn't eliminate any of it. Even this version of Briggs would be in there posing as a human heavybag for longer than De Mori was, but Haye should be able to land at will as the fight progresses.

Current Briggs has 2 rounds worth of stamina these days and he's very easy to hit cleanly. Plus, someone had paid for his WBA ranking in an attempt to get him into a Klitschko fight (which Fury derailed for the time being). Haye should look at that ranking and start licking his chops. If he can't beat this version of Briggs (a guy who hobbled to a decision over R. Zumbano Love), then he might as well go back into "retirement".

 

Briggs shouldn't even be allowed to box.
He's an accident waiting to happen.

but should he really need the ref to help him

This would actually be a good fight. Haye has got to be the favourite but Briggs still has that old man power. He might just knock Haye and his toe out

Cant imagine it get approved. Would sell both big punchers but really Haye could just throw the odd for jab for 2 rounds until Shannon is blowing out of his a*** then stop him on his feet

I don't think he was even paid that, in the articles I've seen Briggs claimed he was only paid $25K for being put in intensive care by Vitali.

 

Much speculation that Haye's next fight is against let's go champ.

Would be a great fight, love both characters as they both bring heart and excitement to the sport.

Let's get it on and find out who the better man is.

I believe Haye would edge it due to the age, ability and speed. Both men have good power. Briggs comes in with the better chin, and is more durable, but I don't know he lets himself become a sitting target and eventually Haye is going to shatter your chin to pieces no matter how strong it is.

If Briggs can rough him up and get those body shots in and take him into deep waters, then he's got a good chance to cause an upset.
