Max managed to beat the greatest heavyweight champion in history, could he beat the second best, too?

I disagree Louis was the greatest ,and I think ALI is a stylistic nightmare for Max. Schmeling did not have the mobility to keep up with Ali,he relied on men coming to him so he could counter them, against Ali he would be chasing a ghost all night.
Ali was vulnerable to left hooks not right hands, and even when he was past prime he weathered Shavers bombs, he would comprehensively out box, and out speed Max to take a reasonably easy win on points.

Id favor Ali, I could see Schmelling landing a few good sharp rights but I cant see him winning or looking too good in this one

Which elite counter puncher did Ali face? Schmeling wouldn't chase Ali, he'd wait for him to lead. It would make for a weird fight. Max would make Ali look terrible at times.

Schmelling was the aggressor when Stribling used movement

Yes he was ,and they traded jabs for a lot of the fight.Stribling was under 190lbs and lasted into the 15th.

I don't think Max could beat Ali to the jab, nor hit him hard enough or often enough to floor him ,so he's up against it here, imo.

Zora Folley countered Ali early on but even at that age he punched faster than Max, Ali runs rings around him and stops him late or wins every round.

Funny how weight suddenly becomes a factor.

? Ali is the greatest heavyweight of all time. Can't deny it. Longevity does not beat quality.

Weight is always a factor ,otherwise there wouldn't be weigh- ins!

I tend to think that Schelling's style matched up to Louis, better than it matched up to Ali, but he still has a number of tools that could give Ali problems.

He made good uses of the left hook to the body, and could apply steady pressure.

His style was a bit of a box of tricks generally.

    Expect an interesting fight.

Max Schmeling was an ATG in a round about sort of way and definitely underrated. But I concur with those who pick Muhammad Ali. He just brings too much to the table.
