And face Charles Martin instead. As per Ron Lewis of the Times.

If true this is a blatant Duck by Wilder

its whats going to happen, it was obvious as soon as martin won the fight him and wilder would fight next.

the only question left is will the wbc strip wilder or allow him to keep the belt and unify? I think since he is American they will allow him to keep the belt

I doubt it. If Wilder ducks Povetkin then he should stop boxing. I figure that Martin will call him out on some fake **** and Wilder will be acting like he has to fight Martin because he was talking ****. :patsch

I don't like this move, only because he's leaving povetkin on the hook to get beaten by some low level journeyman. I completely understand wanting to skip povetkin only due the fact Martin, as bad as he is is a lot tougher to beat than povetkin.

The only way he gets any benefits if povetkin was the co event on that same card in the same arena. And povetkin will have to be matched very carefully for them to make sure povetkin mins.

I'd still rather DW in the ring for DW's March/April fight. I've heard directly from DW's mouth that he wants to get the povetkin defense done as soon as possible..

I do find it strange DW is the one defending the title but that doesn't say why the champ is pushing the mandatory fight. The mandatory is the fighter who she be trying to fight the champ. Champ having to chase down his next challenger for the 3rd time is really telling of both mens ground and stance.

DW tko 4 povetkin, would love to have massive odds for the fight. Many of the posters on here feel povetkin is a legit challenger while I see how large of a mismatch this defense will be.

See the last Polish challenger and you'll see the type of fighters that give DW a little bit of issues

Lou dibella is denying the report. Ron Lewis says he is confident in his source. Let the drama begin but if true Wilder will lose all credibility. All respect. His camp has to know this. That's only reason why I think Dibella might be right. We'll see.

Alot of mouthy fighters have gone on record to say something that never actually materializes. Never expected Wilder to face Povetkin while Wilder holds a title and Povetkin doesnt.

Yeah but they generally don't demand a fight be moved up if they are scared of someone.

So there is still no real evidence he plans to do this. But for the record if he did, I'd probably lose respect for him and lose interest in him as a fighter. No excuse for that and it would completely contradict everything he has said.

And there are no actions to prove he is ducking him either.

Yes , actions speak louder than words. Potvekin was the mandatory for Wilders past January fight and I'll be dammed if Wilder didn't avoid the fight.

Oh my mistake, the ball was in team Potvekin's court and they decided to pass for a later date. Those actions speak quite loud to me...
