Tyson said a lot of things that weren't true. At the Tryon school for boys as a kid Tyson was lifting weights, in Tyson's book he talks about lifting weights. There is video of Tyson lifting weights. GTFO until you do your research bub. Boxers like to claim they don't lift weights to imply they are some sort of physical freak. Tyson was in fact a physical freak, but he also lifted weights and did plenty of bodyweight exercises (the same thing as lifting a weight, and more effective the more you weigh since it is your bodyweight). And again, why oh why would you take someone who is likely an anomaly, someone who is likely genetically gifted and then hold them up as an example? Why do you care what somebody looks like? It's about performance.

Cus D'Amato said that Tyson didn't lift weights. Maybe he did it later when he switched trainers but Cus didn't believe in it. Tyson was a true boxing heavyweight and he got his physique without lifting weights. As I said I rarely lift weights too and I'm 105kg 180cm heavyweight. I do a lot of calisthenics, plyometrics and heavy bag work. Bodybuilding freaks are just jealous because they can't have the heavyweight physique without lifting 6 days a week and overeating 8 times a day. Then they box like they're stuck in the mud and gas after 2 rounds.
my boxing routine is very basic, I will do 4 rounds skipping of 3 minutes, I will then do 3-4 rounds of shaddow boxing working on punching from the hips and focusing on extending my punches, I will then do body sparring with the bigger guys. I then do some bag work. I get bored I want to do full sparring but my trainer does not think im ready. Im eager to get in the ring and box but I very rarely get a chance.
Your routine sounds pretty good. Your stamina sounds good too. There must be something that your trainer sees for the reason that you aren't ready.
I panic when I fight in the ring for some reason, When I box outside the ring where everyone trains I am able to relax more. I want to prove to my coach and myself I want to be trained,I do not get training, I do everything myself, It is annoying but it is what it is
That's the reason right there. You panic. Next time you go to spar, relax. Nobody is good there fir a while. Forget about how much time is left. You have all the time in the world to work on your stuff when sparring. Describe what you think and do when you panic in the ring?
Good stuff dealt, like usual. Btw do you have any advice on how a boxer should train to maximize speed,power and stamina? Like any particular routines. I know a lot of current boxing trainers are very old school and stubborn about progress and while there is a lot of current training methods for athletes, very few are tailored for boxers. Also is squat THE most important exercise for boxer? Is it even more important that deadlifts? I try to alternate but for some reason i can deadlift significantly more than squat (around 50 pounds).
I don't have a specific routine for you, like every other sport it should change leading up to competition with different physical qualities developed in a periodised plan, based off sound physiological principles. There is no most important exercise for a boxer, as everyone has different strengths and weaknesses. Most people can deadlift more than they can squat. The Squat IMO is more of a performance enhancing exercise as you're using your hips and knees equally in an almost upright position, so more transfer to boxing movements. The deadlift is more of an injury prevention exercise for a boxer as you're using the muscles that tend to get neglected in boxing. That also improves performance by making you a more balanced athlete, helping you get better posture and in turn better range of motion on your movements. There's a place for everything.
I dont know why, I think its the ring that makes me panic, I forget to breathe at times. When I spar on the ground with the other fighters I can relax and focus. I think its the feeling of being in the ring and everyone watching you.
Sounds like your gun shy, most trainers will only let a fighter into the ring who has 80% fearlessness and 20% fear. You probably never get a fight.
