the thing about boxing that people forget is you have an expiry date. unlike a lawyer, you only earn in your prime. i dont blame him for pumping for money. hes a good boxer and as long as he fights mayweather and one other good fight ive got no problem
In fairness to Hatton, he has taken on a few challenges in his career. But theres little doubt he's business first, legacy second. He's done well to convince people he's an exciting fighter I must say. John Ruiz is reviled by boxing fans world wide for his hook and hold style yet Ricky is a national treasure in spite of the fact he employs the same dubious tactics (against top opposition at least).
Business first legacy second? If a fight with Pacquaio did come off, that would be three P4P top three fighters faced during his career.
A former flyweight. That would be a freakshow. It's highly subjective whether Zoo was top 3 p4p but he certainly deserves plaudits for that win.
De La Hoya is the same height as Tyson with a longer reach. Would you give Tyson mad credit if he took that fight?
Pacquaio got too big for flyweight when he was 20. Didn't exactly look podgy at 130. Like I said, he's the same size as Hatton, sounds like you've been ripped off by freakshow owners in the past. And all p4p rankings are subjective, but Tszyu was fairly well consensus top three after returning and demolishing Mitchell.
I can see where Hatton is coming from. The Lazcano fight is one to bounce back from. He was offered a fight on HBO, but wanted to fight in Britain again. He is making less money than he could do, because he chooses to fight in Britain at an awkward time for American's. You can't use this fight as an argument for saying he is money orientated, no way. His future is a little different. One more at 140lbs against Malignaggi. Again, good money maker but the fight makes more sense for his legacy. If he beats Malignaggi, he would have beaten 2 number one contenders and dethroned possibly the greatest 140lber ever. This fight is also not for money. I can see where people are comnig from concerning Mayweather. Afer such an easy loss, what could he do differently to stop another in the same fashion? I guess your stance on whether he is choosing to fight Mayweather again for money or legacy depends on whether he believes he can win. If you think Hatton knows he can't win, then it's obviously for money. If I was offered £1m to fight prime Tyson I would hapily do it. However, if you believe Hatton when he says he can win, then it's a fight for his legacy more than bank balance. A fight with Pacquiao is good, too. People will say how he is much smaller and that would have been the case a while back. Now though, pacquiao is looking weak at 130lbs and i don't know if he could make it back there. With every fight he is looknig more and more drained. Cpmpare the pictures from the pressers of before Pacquiao/Morales I and Pacquiao/JMM II. He looks a much weaker fighter before every bout now. I think he'll look strong at 135lbs, thought. If he does then Hatton will be fighting a guy 5lbs under his natural weight class who happens to be the second boxer alive. I don't think that small weight difference should override the fact that Pacquiao would be a massive threat for Hatton stylewise. Depending on how Pacquiao looks against Diaz, I may end up favouring him over Hatton. The final three fights are all going to be a tough test for him, anyway.
If he was currently fighting 5lbs lower and looking ripped, as I'm fairly sure Pacquiao will at LW, I'm sure it would be fine. That's not the case, so pointless example. Who cares what weight Pac was when he was 20?
Hatton is so full of **** - it's easy to say that when you are already a multi million and you are saying that comment just after earning approx £10 million for one fight. Go give your money to charity then you british idol to the british tossers who love you. All them fans who packed out Manchester Nynex during them WBU fight days - mugs. Warren and Hatton and Father Ray were milking you for all the money you are worth. So they can live in big mansions, have fast cars, go on holidays ten times a year - and you can't afford it. Its all about the money for them greedy self serving ****ers. He is not up for a challenge - otherwise he would have fought Junuior Witter for FREE. I'm not going to pay £15 to watch Hatton fight cos I do not want him and father Ray to have my money. I am going to use that £15 and invest it to bettering my life. **** Ricky Hatton.
